Anyone on the Mini Pill?

So far I've been on the mini-pill for one month.  I have mixed feelings and would appreciate any feedback.  The pros so far are: no moodiness issues, no weight gain, no bloating, hair loss, or depression issues.  I've had some of these reactions to other BC.  The Con: I got my period twice already.  16 days ago and now today!  I googled and saw that irregular periods are common.  However, most reviews don't rate the mini-pill as effective.  Because the menstruation is so irregular; some women actually found out they were pregnant.

I haven't had any problems, and have been on it for about 6 weeks.  I haven't gotten a period, but I am BFing (not sure if you are - your post didn't specify).  From what I've read and a discussion with my doctor, it's not as effective as the "normal" pill, but if taken correctly, it's way better than nothing.  For me, I'd much rather take the pill than use the other options.  The only form of birth control that 100% effective is abstaining, so I'm willing to take my chances on getting pregnant again so soon.

    Ditto!

We also use the "withdrawl" method  Embarrassed

I figure that, the minipill and breastfeeding should have us pretty well-covered, although I realize it's not 100%.

  • Oops...Yes I am breastfeeding. I was informed by my OB that if I stop BF , I need to switch to a pill with estrogen but I don't plan on stopping. I just wasn't warned about the periods. I've heard that many women don't menstruate at all while BF. I guess I'm not so lucky.

  • Switch brands.

I haven't had any bleeding, but when I picked up my Rx, my pharmacist basically said "we've got a LOT of kinds of the mini pill. If this doesn't work out for you, ask your doctor to try something else".

I'm on Micronor, which has worked for me. I've never had a pill that didn't work for me, though.

  • My doctor prescribed Micronor and I got the generic version to try it first, and I, like you, just got my second period in 3 weeks. Once this pack is over I'm going to ask the pharmacist if I can just try what was originally prescribed and see if that doesn't help more. My doctor did tell me that while you are breastfeeding even if you don't see a period you still ovulate and can still get pregnant just for those that think you can't (I didn't know you could without a period and am still dumbfounded). It's not just you, but I am going to do what PP said and maybe switch brands to see.
