at 17 weeks, I'm up 4 pounds.  However, I wasn't weighed until my 10 week appointment, so it's possible I gained a little before then.  I don't think it could have been much but a pound or two is possible.  So somewhere between 4-6 total.

  • At 20 weeks today I am up 14 lbs.  Doc said i'm right on track and everything looks good.  Everyone, nurses included keep tellin me I look like i'm 15/16 weeks.  I didn't even start showing untill 18 so I guess this is good.  And I'm not a little girl, I'm average I would say.

  • I am 19 wks 5 days and up 13lbs, I am not worried about the amount, although I am slightly worried that 3lbs of that was gained in the last weekIndifferent.. I am hoping it was just a growth spurt and not a sign of things to come...

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • Down about 15. I was steady for the first couple months and then gradually lost. Now I'm holding steady again. And I'm overweight to begin with.

  • I'm 16 weeks 2 days, and I haven't gained anything.  It kind of freaks me out.  My body is changing, though--I bought maternity clothes last weekend and they are much more comfortable.  I don't know why that hasn't contributed to any weight gain.  I have my "16 week" appt on 7/19, so I'll ask about it then, I guess.

Agree! I'm about that height and weight, and while I could stand to lose 5-10 pounds, I wouldn't consider myself overweight. BMI is a load of crap. Just for reference, I had a breast reduction and they removed several pounds of breast tissue. I still wear a DDD cup size so I figure there have to be quite a few pounds left! However, the BMI does not take this into account and likes to tell me I'm on the borderline on healthy weight. If I removed about 5 more pounds of breasts I would be perfectly healthy weight (and maybe a happy c-cup!)

BMI is total crap.  I am 5'4", and at 145 lbs I have no fat and a four pack and am a size 6.  When I weigh 180 lbs I am a size 12 and considered OBESE?!?!  Yeah, I have a large-ish rack, but c'mon, that shouldn't make anyone obese!

I tend to ignore it and go by clothing size generally.  As long as I can shop in the normal area I am not going to worry about it.  My doctor (pre-pg) calculated my BMI once and looked at the readout, then looked at me.  She then checked my back (I think for rolls on my back) and was like, "BMI doesn't work for your frame".

I don't think it works for a lot of people's frames!

  • Up 2 total at my 18 week appt last night. It feels like much much more. I don't think I'm getting smaller in areas to compensate for the belly growth.

  • I'm 17 weeks & gained 7-8 lbs, which means I'm on track. My doc wanted me to gain 30 across the whole pregnancy, with about 10 in the first half and 20 in the second half (1 lb/wk from week 20 to week 40). I started out with a healthy weight but not a lot of room to loose weight so even though the office normally considers 25 the minimum gain target, they made mine 30.

  • -2 lbs. I never gained until 24 weeks with number 1, it's just the way my body is.

  • At 18 weeks I'm up about 14 pounds according to the scale at home. I think that's a little inflated from too much sodium yesterday, so I'd be thrilled if I can keep it to 15 pounds by 20 weeks.

Last pregnancy I gained 12 pounds between week 20 and 24, so I'm a little freaked out about that. I'm a little more active this preganncy and am eating decently. But if I'm hungry I'm going to eat, and yes occasionally splurge on something. If I can keep my overall weight gain for this pregnancy to 40 I'll be happy. Last time I gained almost 60, but I lost all then another 15 or so on top of that. I was 118 at the start of this pregnancy and hope to be back there by next summer :>

  • I'm 18w6d and I've gained a net total of 10 pounds.  I was actually up 12 pounds after indulging in too many preggo cravings, but I've gotten my eating habits back on track and I've lost 2 pounds in the past couple weeks.  The belly's still getting bigger, but my thighs are getting smaller, so things are looking up!

  • 16 weeks - up one pound! (I was terrified I went on a cruise last week, I thought for sure I was going to gain a bunch - but thankfully most of the food sucked - dinners were good, but I wasn't tempted to kill the buffets often)

  • 10 pounds at almost 18 weeks. I am def worried as I didn't have any sickness but have trouble with healthy choices..they just don't appeal to me. I need to do more exercise and choose better foods. I don't eat unhealthy just not salads and grilled chicken like I used to. Plan to start a prenatal DVD one of these days!!

  • Weighed myself this AM (17w3d) and am up 12#. The way I see it, I weighed 140# for the past 10 yrs and a couple months before I got pregnant I dropped 6# due to stress of taking longer than expected to conceive. So when I step on the scale now and see 146# it only feels like 6# more than I've weighed for most of my adult life.

  • I'll be 20 wks on Monday and I'm up about 14 lbs. It was really bothering me but I have been trying to exercise and eat as healthy as I can and I am done worrying about it.  I was a healthy weight to start with, 126 lbs., 5'4 ht.

  • 7 lbs at my last appointment (I was 16 weeks and 3 days).  Stresses me out a little because I gained 6 lbs in 1 month.  I have not changed my eating habits at all and continued to exercise so I am not sure what was different this month.

  • At my 16wk appointment this past Thursday (16w2d), I was up 5lbs.  I had probably an extra 30 lbs more than I would have like to have pre-pregnancy, so I'm not too concerned about the weight gain at this point.  My goal is to only gain 20lbs or so (we'll see how that goes...)

I agree, BMI doesn't work for a lot of people!

That's because true BMI is not calculated just by height and weight.  I remember having my BMI calculated in HS, and they used this tool that pinched a portion of your arm and your thigh, and how much excess was within that was also factored in to the BMI count.  Muscle has more mass than fat, so if someone is extremely in shape, they could "weigh" more, but be much smaller and have a lower BMI than the couch potato at the same height and weight.

  • I lost 8 pounds in the first few months of pregnancy, and have gained 3 back, so a net loss right now of 5 pounds.
    imageBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I lost nine right off the bat due to morning sickness. I have since gained that back plus 5 pounds.

    16w5d, up 6lbs.

BTW, BabyCenter's weight gain calculator pissed me off yesterday. I hate, hate, hate the calculators that go off BMI. I weighed 151 at the beginning of my pregnancy at 5'5" (I will admit I was about 5lbs over my normal "happy" weight), but I hate seeing that it called me overweight pre-PG. At a size 8, I don't think that's overweight at.all.

BMIs are really a terrible measure because it does not account for your body type or your muscle to fat ratio. What's important is that you eat right, get some activity, and feel good in your body.

My doctor says I'm gaining at a healthy rate, and that's all that matters to me.
