Rody Horse...anyone got it?

We came across it at a toy store this weekend and S loved it...just don't know if it's worth the $50. Anyone else get this and LO love it?

ETA: it's the bouncing balance one.

  • We have one.  I found it cheapest on Amazon.com.  I want to say i paid $38 for it.  DD uses it sometimes but not all that much.  it could be because we also have that fisher price bouncing horse that you can connect to the tv to play a game and that makes music and sounds when you bounce on that.  she likes that much better.  we never connected it to the tv either.

  • DD liked it when she played with it at a friend's house, but no more than the wooden IKEA moose-rocking horse we received as a hand-me-down from a neighbor. If I were going to invest in a large toy meant to both exhaust and entertain DD, it would be a mini-trampoline, for sure.

  • Thanks y'all...just trying to find ideas for her 2nd birthday...seems like everything I think she'll love...she gets tired of so easy. We have the mini trampoline and she maybe spends 5-10 minutes a day on it...if that.

That's really what I wanted to get her for her birthday, a play kitchen, but DH doesn't think she's into pretend play enough yet to really enjoy it. I totally disagree. She's got the PB anywhere chair forher 1st birthday, that has been a huge hit! I'll have to check out the LeapFrog movies..

  • DD got the Rody horse for her 1st b-day from my brother and his g-friend.  She has just recently started to play on it.  Her legs are long enough now to be able to bounce on it.  She also gets a kick out of it when I sit on it and "fall over" on purpose.  She thinks it's hilarious!  :)  I'd recommend the Rody, and it can be used for a long time.  I think the weight limit is like 100 lbs or something!  That being said, if I were to choose between the Rody and a play kichen, I'd get the play kitchen.  I'm planning on getting one for LO for Christmas.  She loves to play with her plastic dishes and food and I'm sure a play kitchen would be a big hit.

  • I just read an article today actually about pretend play and how it usually starts around age 3. It makes sense because we got DS his kitchen at 2 and he just now started really playing with it and loving it.

This exactly.  We love Rody.  We lived in Germany for 5 years and all the doctor offices adn such we went to had one and my kids loved them.  I bought one for my daughter for her second birthday and she loved it right away.  She still plays with it, just not as much as the first few months.  She loves rocking side to side yelling "woah" then falling over lol.  That being said, the play kitchen that she got for Christmas gets WAY more use.  She will fully use it, act like she's putting stuff in the oven using the little rag as a pot holder and everything.  She turned 2 in May and has been loving cooking for us for many months.

ETA: We ordered Rody through Amazon.  If you keep watching it they go up and down in prices a lot.  I ended up paying $30 and had free shipping.  I didn't buy the color I really wanted because it was still close to $50 when I went to order it so I went for my second choice that was much cheaper.
