Anyone complete P90x?

DH is getting the videos from a co-worker and is wanting to start. I might do it with him. I know it is really hard but was wondering if any of you have done it and made it through? Give me some beginning and ending stats if you have made it through.

Re: Anyone complete P90x?

  • My husband completed it, however it was slightly modified. He did all the strength training and ab ripper x days and then did cardio instead of Kenpo, Yoga, etc. He lost between 20-30lbs (210 down to around 185) and lots of inches. He didn't modify his eating one bit. He loves the strength videos but does them without Tony's voice on (Tony is really annoying!) now and turns the radio on. He will choose these over heading to the gym and he was gym and lifting advocator prior to P90X.

Now I find P90X incredibly long and boring! But it just isn't my style. I really enjoy GSP's Rushfit, I think those go by quickly and give me a great workout in a shorter time! I got pg right after receiving them, so I haven't done the full 8 weeks to tell you results, but I intend too after baby. But my DH cannot stand Rushfit, he has done a few with me and hates it.

Good luck! I hope P90X works for you! It does give results if you stick to it!

  • We made it consistently through the first 30 days plus maybe a week into the second "cycle" before our schedules got too busy to fit it in like you're supposed to. We forgot to take measurements/photo's from when we started but I can tell you that I lost 4lbs of "vanity" weight (ie the last couple pounds of my pregnancy weight) and got into my size 8's that I was in before pregnancy. I was VERY excited. We want to start it up again, but probably when it gets cool outside again. DH and I both lost any progress we made, in endurance and body difference.

Oh, and it IS tough, but I was surprised at how fast I got used to it (within 2 weeks) and wasn't left winded and wheezing. It was the first exercise I did coming off of my pregnancy/pp so I really didn't have any base endurance or strength going into it.

Also, I don't know if you watch The Office, but Tony totally reminds us of Michael, which makes him much more entertaining than annoying to listen to. Stick out tongue

I would say go for it, see what happens. You can always modify the workouts if you need to start slower. Just realize that it is a bigger time commitment, especially as a parent, and that's what, in the end, made us slip away from doing it consistently.

This is exactly why I have never done P90X.  I do not have 1.5 hours almost daily to dedicate to working out a being away from my family.  I do love to exercise and found a great and CHEAP alternative to P90X.  It is called Supreme 90 Day.  Available at Target and only cost $20 for 11 yes 11 DVDs.  The longest workout is 45 minutes but I will say almost all of them are 30 minutes. I have done 5 videos so far and LOVE them.  I haven't changed my eating habits (and am not pp, I am TTC) but have lost around 3 pounds even after eating like crap while camping (that is only 1 full week of doing so and I had to take off a few days because of camping).  Many people call these videos the "poor mans P90X because it operates on the same principle- muscle confusion.  I highly suggest checking them out online a collage video.

Good Luck and I know you will love these!

  • I made it through about the first 5 weeks before stopping. It was just such a time suck that I couldn't stick with it. I do still like some of the weight training series by themselves (errr... when I'm not 36 wks pregnant...).

One thing I started doing to make it not quite so long was just using the book and doing the exercises without the DVD. That helped me to cut down the amount of time that Tony spends gabbing. I'm sure I should have been following the DVD so that I got the appropriate amount of rest, but I could cut out 10-15 minutes that way.

My SIL completed it on her 3rd round, but she is also a SAHM with all her kids in school, so I think she was able to do it when no one else was home.

It CAN be done, but the commitment is pretty extreme!!

  • I did all 90 days doing doubles a little less than two years ago.  This is my first baby so I don't have kids, and I was unemployed for most of the time that I did it (that's why I had nearly three hours to exercise in a day).  I really enjoyed it.  Tony and most of the other people annoyed the crap out of me, but the workouts were good and I got a lot of definition especially in my arms and back.  If you're looking to lose weight, I do NOT recommend it at all.  Do Insanity if you want to lose weight - it's shorter and way more cardio intensive. If you're looking to feel stronger, I really recommend it.  It gave me a lot more confidence with weights.  The only workout I really hated was YogaX because I didn't think it was real yoga.

  • Let me add...once you know the routine you can do it basically without Tony, when my husband turns off the sound, that is what he does. It takes about 40min without Tony talking. he just does 2-3 exercises in a row and then fast forwards to the next series and does those.
