What am I doing wrong?

My lo is turing out just like my first one was--fussy all day long(when ever she is awake that is) I can maybe get out of her 20 minutes of smile time once or twice a day, but otherwise she is always crying!! Help!! What am I doing wrong?!

  • probably nothing, some babies just do that. is LO on BM or FF?  Possibly limit diet or go to a gas/fussiness formula.

do you hold her in a moby or ergo? that can get your hands free at least. She could have colic.  Does she like vibrations?  You could try ot put her in her car seat on top of the dryer and turn it on.

  • DS would only smile at me first thing in the morning for the longest time (once he started smiling). As he's gotten older he'll smile throughout the day and whenever I dance or do a workout video in front of him.

Ditto on the wrapping/babywearing. That  plus rocking, singing, walk her around the house and talk to her, nurse if you're BFing, or try a baby swing if you haven't already. I'm sure none of this is new info for you, but just trying to help. :)

  • My little guy was like this until I changed my diet (BFing, obviously).  I wanted to pull my hair out - nothing I did would get him to stop crying and a lot of the time it sounded like he may be in pain.  I ended up cutting my diet back to turkey, rice, potato and pears (and only using salt and pepper as seasoning) and he stopped with the day-long cry sessions.  I am still slowly adding stuff back in (one item at a time so I can see how he handles it), but so far I had to cut out all dairy (including hidden dairy), chicken and pork.  If I eat any of them, I get another day-long cry session to deal with.

The other thing that will make him crycrycry is if he doesn't get his naps.  His swing has become the greatest thing ever (he hated it the first few weeks, but it's been great for the last 2 weeks or so) - even when he's overtired and beyond consoling, his swing will settle him down and he'll at least take a short nap.  If I can at least get him to take a short nap (20-30 minutes), once he wakes up from that I'll change him, feed him and turn around and see if he'll nap a little more.  For a truly happy baby, in our house we need at least one solid 3-4 hour nap per day.

    Good luck!

  • Is your LO on formula?  I highly recommend trying a sensitive formula if she is. DD was so fussy, had to be held all day or else she would cry, and did not sleep well at all.  I finally tried Similac Sensitive (we are Walmart's generic now) and she is a different child.  I also wear her when she is fussy and am pretty consistent with putting her down every 90 minutes that she is awake (we are just now getting to one three hour stretch that she is awake during the day).
