Babies on the Brain

could it be?

I went off the pill about 2.5 weeks ago. My fiance and I are not ttc, but in the last week I have noticed I feel bloated, my nipples are really sore, and I had a really thick, mucous-like discharge 3 days ago.  My last period was june 28th, and I have never had sore breasts before AF.  I'm 21 - and scared.  Could it be pregnancy signs? Or just hormone imbalances where I stopped the birth control? When should I take an at home test?  Any advice is appreciated!  Thanks!

Re: could it be?

  • If in doubt, go to the doctor. No one on the internet can tell you if you are pregnant or not. Good luck!

  • off the pill, pregnancy symptoms and pre-menstrual symptoms can be identical.  I'd say you still have about a week before a test may be accurate.

  • completely normal when coming off of birth control. My boobs were HUGE and so sore for several weeks. You should test when you're late, but honestly, your cycles may be wonky for a few months as your body gets used to doing its own thing. The discharge could very well have been you ovulating(something the pill keeps you from doing). If you want you can check out fertilityfriend.com. They have some really excellent tutorials on their site about what goes on in your body during your cycle. It taught me a lot.

Question though-if you're not TTC but aren't on the pill, what sort of birth control are you on?

  • If you aren't TTC, then why aren't you on the pill or some other form of birthday control?

ffs, would you stop telling everyone to go to the dr

  • To answer some questions, I was on birth control for ovarian cysts - and I came off of it because I kept getting migraines. My doc is gonna see if the bc caused them, and so far I haven't had any.  She said maybe I can try another kind of birth control soon.  As for contraceptives, right now it's just the basic: condoms.

No.  If in doubt you test once/week get a + hpt (then call the DR), get your period, or hit CD 60 (then call the DR).  Just because you're late doesn't automatically mean you call your doctor

  • ok, as long as you're using condoms and aren't somehow managing to screw them up lol, you should be good. What you're experiencing is completely normal. It's just what your body does when you're not overriding it with hormones. If you're really concerned, test when your period would be due, but just know that it's not unusual to have what you are describing.

Sure, as soon as people stop asking strangers if they're pregnant.

You can go to the doctor to find out what is going on with your body. I go to the doctor for alot more than a pregnancy test.

  • Thank you so much! I've heard about hormone imbalances, but never thought it would be something to happen to me.  I read some of the pregnancy stories and the symptoms on here, and it freaked me out a little. Again, thank you.  It's comforting to know it's normal and that I may be stressing over nothing.

Well, that's great but that isn't what the OP is asking about.  There is no reason to run to the DR for being a few days late.  Especially if you are just coming off of BC.

  • If you have unprotected sex, there's a chance you're pregnant. If you're using condoms correctly and consistently, you probably aren't. We used condoms successfully for 2 years before TTC. UPTs should be accurate 2 weeks after you had sex. Like PP said, you can wait until your period is expected to test, but I would expect that to be wonky after just coming off the pill.

If you are going to the Dr every time your period is "late", you are the reason it is so hard for those of us that NEED to get in to the see Dr to get it. Good Lord. Use some common sense. Please.

It sounds like she's having more issues than that, by the sound of her second post.

  • Navy gave you some great advice. If you have been using condoms since you came off bc there is little chance that you are pregnant. Good luck!

For as much as well tell newbs this, looks like somebody forgot that BOTB =/= doctor. She asked a simple question. You're overthinking this.

And this is why what should be a 15 minute prenatal check-up takes an hour at least.

  • Clarification:I did not say that I go to the doctor every time I am late. I said that you could go to the doctor for other things than a pregnancy test.

I should have clarified that she could take a HPT first. Though at this point I doubt she would get a positive and she said she's worried. I apologize for not clarifying.

  • Thanks to all of you - I have never done this before (ask people I do not know) for advice, but I didn't feel comfortable asking those I know.  I feel better about my situation, and a lot less stressed.  Thanks again!!
