Ameda vs Medela?

I wrote on the Sept. 2011 board but figured you all would have more experience :) The thing is I'm still confused which breast pump to buy....the Ameda Purely Yours or the Medela Pump In Style....my one major concern about the Medela is the open system, which can create mold :(

 I also understand the Medela is more expensive but I really just want the better product....

Thoughts/Opinions? Also, I'm due Sept. 23, I have no idea when I should buy it once I decide?

    I have the Ameda Purely Yours and I love it!  I'd buy it before you have the baby and take it with you to the hospital.  You never know if baby will have trouble latching, etc.  So, if you need to pump while you are there, the LCs will help you with your pump!

    I agree with the PP! I love my Ameda. I had a Medela first.... then I found out they grow mold. I took mine apart and it had mold in the motor.

    I like my ameda.  It is so small and easy to throw into any bag.  The only medela I'd consider is the freestyle because it is even smaller and can clip on you so you can walk around.

    I'd wait until after LO is born to buy.  I rented an Ameda hospital grade pump for the first month and then switched to a Medela PISA because it was given to me.  Both worked well, but the Medela flanges were a lot more comfortable IMO.  Wasn't aware of the mold problem...I'll have to check that out.

    I have the Medela PIS and I love it. It's the pump that was suggested by our LC.

    Medela because of the suctioning. It's two-way which is more natural and mimic LO (IMO). Ameda did not have that same feeling at all. In the hospital, I pumped with the Medela Symphony, which prepared me for my Freestyle. Mold has not been an issue with me- good maintenance should be a no-brainer and every LC I've ever spoken with has assured me that the Medela is worth the open system issue.
