My yard sale find (NBFR of course)

Every summer our church youth group puts on a yard sale. They have it going this weekend and I stopped by last night. Nothing much, but I did find a few older cameras. Sine my degree is in photography, I've used older preofessional type cameras, but I'm not very familiar with older "cheapie" stuff. My guess was that this stuff was from the late 80s or early 90s, and on it's way out then. But it was fun so why not?

I got to looking at them later and realized one had film in it! It was a cartridge I had never seen so I started trying to do some research. These cartridges haven't been made (by this brand) since 1999. Ok, fits my 80's/90's theory. Still cool. But that was the "new" processing chemicals. This has it's processing chemicals listed on it, and they are the older ones. It took me quite a bit longer to find the dates for this cartridge FOR those chemicals. This was made somewhere between 1963-1974! In the world of film, that's an antique!

I've sent a measage to my Pastor, as I really want to try to find out who this belonged to. Commercially NO ONE uses these old chemicals (hardly any processes film at all for that matter) But I know we used it in some of my classes in college just a few years ago. I've sent a message to one of my professors in hopes of sending it to him, and that he will be able to get something off of it. I've found several message board coversations of people saying they were able to get decent images off this type of film, but those were all 5+ years old when it could still be processed comercially.

Sorry, you might not care, but I just had to share! Cool

  • I love it! That sounds like such a great adventure. Who knows what might be on there. I have romaticized ideas of all the things it could be. Keep us posted.

Wow this is cool.  I think it's exciting that you researched all this.  Yes
  • Very cool!  I used to develop photos the old way as well in high school and college 20-30 years ago (god i feel old) so I totally understand your excitement!

By the way - I am thinking about putting them on ebay, but if you want first look, I have 3 older cameras if you're interested. A Nikon 35MM (80's), a box style one probably from the 40's (maybe?) that I can't recall what it is, and I'm still debating on whether or not I want to get rid of my Pentax K1000 (80's).  If you're interested, let me know. I also have an old video camera.

You are so close to me so I'd work something out with you if you want.

I probably wouldn't be interested in the Nikon or Pentax. I still have (and use) my moms 35mm canon from probably the late 70s. But the older one maybe? It would also depend how much you want for...this is a cheap hobby for me lol

  • I'll take a photo of it and send it to you sometime this weekend.

  • I can't wait to hear if you get something from it.  The oldest I have seen processed was 13yo film, it came out fairly red/pink/orange on the one side almost like it was partially exposed.  Did you figure out what type of camera it was?  Somewhere in my garage I have an old Kodak 124 that looks something like this -

makes me want to buy old film off eBay and see if it will come out.  Damn I am mad at myself for selling my Nikon F100 and even more mad for selling my N60 for $10 at a garage sale with a lens!

It was a lot like that one. The film was kodak 126, but the camera it was it was an Imperial. I have a Kokak 126 too though.
