The rudest thing someone has said while you've been pregnant...

Re: The rudest thing someone has said while you've been pregnant...

  • I am one of those women who show pretty early. And get big (but at least I'm almost all belly). So yeah, the "twins" and the "huge" comments? I have had more than my share. And I can understand those. I just wish people wouldn't feel the need to ask me if I'm "sure there's only one in there" or comment on how much longer I still have to go.

Also? I wish my dad would stop asking me and my brother if we've figured out how to make boys yet (my brother and I both have girls).

My sister (whith whom I have a somewhat rocky relationship anyway) has taken to introducing me as "Fatty". As in, "This is my mom, Judy and my sister, Fatty". Even if I had gained a ton of weight, that would be incredibly rude, but my Dr. did a happy dance at my last appointment becasue I had gained and not lost weight. Friggin' Hyperemesis! My mom just about slapped my sister when she heard it.

If I were you, I would start introduce her as Fatty, whether she's pregnant or not.

I'm not part of this board yet but was lurking and reading these. I have tears in my eyes from the above comment I was laughing so hard! I wish I would've thought of that when I was pregnant with DS, I had a friend who always said "hey fatty" the second I would walk in the door. I just never knew what to say but calling her fatty back would've been great. I'll remember that this time around!

  • "Would it be rude to make a joke about going whaling?"
  • the receptionist at my office loves to make comments. One day she said "I knew you were carrying a boy, you always gain a lot more weight with a boy" At the time I had gained 6 pounds total and I normally only weigh 115.

She is also constantly telling me how tired and run down I look and commenting on where he is sitting that day and how I look. I avoid her desk at all costs now so I dont cuss her out.

  • I got really bad pregnancy acne at the beginning of my pregnancy and was already really self conscious about it when an educational assistant at the school where I teach said "Oh my god, what happened!? You used to be beautiful." I was able to get out the words "I still am" before breaking into sobs. I really just wanted to kick her in the head. Some people have absolutely no filter.

  • I work at a department store with around 200 women so pretty much every time I walk from one end of the store to the other I get some comment made about my pregnancy. "wow you're getting so big!" "how you feeling... you look tired" "here come mrs. waddles" "not too much longer" (that one started at 22 weeks? really?!)

Last night topped the cake. There are a few select women who are oddly interested in my pregnancy. It kind of creeps me out actually how weird they are about it. Always wanting to touch my belly, staring at me as I walk past and always wanting to have long conversations about the baby. I didn't realize said woman was working and innocently walked past her area and I hear this "OMG I just can't believe how big you are getting it's just incredible!!!!!" She says this to me seriously twice a week. I'm not that big, and I wasn't big to start with. I thing her issue is I'm 5'8" and she's 4'9" so of course our pregnancies are going to be a whole lot different! This time I couldn't stand it and I turned around, stood up really straight and sucked in and said "Look my belly is NOT that big!!!" Her response "Oh you're right... maybe you have just been letting yourself go and it's really catching up to you"

My mom asked if I had another baby in my butt.  It was super sweet.

OMG - your mom needs a job at Hallmark.

  • A few weeks ago, a co-worker of mine who has 6 month old twins from IVF told me that I am most definitely pregnant with twins since I've gained so much weight already(I was 13 wks at the time). Feeling pretty insulted but the timing of the conversation was actually a good one!  We were waiting to take a patient for an exam and their nurse had caught the tale end of what was said...He turned to my co-worker and said "I thought you looked pregnant again, but didn't want to ask...how far along are you?"  Justice!

  • Here's my worse so far:

"Look out, here comes the fat one!" (This is from a co-worker who I butt heads with. She is in her 60's, smokes, claims she's from NYC even though she's lived in Philly for the last 20 years and has no children). The comment still bothered me the next morning so I went up to her desk and told her that was extremely rude.   I said it loud enough so that most people, including our boss and BFF heard it. Everyone backed me up and agreed she was way out of line. Some background - I'm not overweight but I do carry very high (like a basketball).

"Are you having twins?" My reply to person: no, that's the rudest thing you could say to any pregnant woman even if it's true. "But you're just so huge" Reply: That is also a mistake to say to any pregnant woman. Next time, please lie and tell the woman she looks great like every other decent person.

Lately I've been getting - "You're going to pop!" Reply: um, no. I've got another 1-2 months to go. But if I am going to pop, I'll make sure you are standing next to me to catch my baby.

Or "Has your belly grown in the last week?" Reply: Why yes, it called the miracle of life. This is what happens when you are pregnant - the baby grows inside the mother until around 9 months.

  • ** lurker **

With #1 -- When I announced my pregnancy, the first thing out of about three seperate mouths was, "OMG.  Have you told ____ & ____ yet?  Are they okay?"  My BIL and SIL had been TTC for about two years, had two miscarriages and had just found out that they would be unable to have any more pregnancies.  So while it was valid to be worried about their feelings, it really seemed to dampen people's joy for our pregnancy.  One woman even told my friend, "I don't know how they could have done that to them!"  Like we had a lot of nerve to want to start a family when someone else couldn't.

Also, we've only told about 5 people so far and already one of them asked if it was planned.  I remember a few asking that last time and thinking how rude of a question that is.

  • Someone the other day told me, "wow youre huge" and went on saying to some mutual friends "doesnt she look a lot bigger this time around". I wanted to ask what their reason was for being so huge. lol.

  • My MIL (who I LOVE oh so much, NOT!)  asked me if I had gained a lot of weight, the last time they visited from out of state.  The answer is NO, but I was like ???  My FIL, who supposedly lost 30 Lbs on the "Cookie Diet" looks more pg than I do!

(PS, I think that pig gained some if it back.  I'm not calling him a pig because he's fat, it's because he eats with his mouth open, picks em and flicks em while sitting and farting on my couch, and stares at me when ever we go out to eat.)  WTF???

Thanks for listening to the little added vent  Big Smile
