The rudest thing someone has said while you've been pregnant...

This post is being prompted  by a recent rude comment said to my boss who is just 2 weeks behind me in her pregnancy and not to butter her up but she looks great and is a skinny gal with a very normal baby belly.

She was a lunch meeting and afterwards one of our rotary members went up to her and said "ohhhh can I touch your belly?" then she proceeded to ask her "Oh my are you sure you're not having twins!"

She by no means is large?! so it was just plain rude and offensive.

Feel free to post your rudest comment here! :)

My mom told me at about 15 weeks that she thinks I am having a girl "because with girls, you gain weight all over".  Funny b/c I am carrying exactly the same way I did with my son and have gained the same amount of weight so far.

  • Not this pregnancy but last one: we were team green and I told some co-workers some of our girl and boy names and one said "We need to come up with some more boy names for you." Needless to say I am not sharing names this time!
  • "You're all belly...well, actually, you gained in your legs, too"--one of our court stenographers...i have a good repore with her, so "you bi**h" was my reply

  • When I was 18 weeks and barely showing a older gentleman (i think he was a perv) asked me "are you pregnant or pleasantly plump"? REALLY??? COME ON! All I could do was laugh it off and walk away.

  • I was sitting on a bench near a complete stranger and her two daughters. She asked me when I was due, then asked if I was having twins because I was "huge." When I told her no, she said (pointing at her youngest) "She was 11 lbs and I was NEVER as big as you are." Thanks lady. My doctor told me the next day that I'm measuring 2 weeks behind, so he'd like to do an ultrasound just to see how big he is...

  • When strangers are disappointed I am having a 3rd boy and not a girl.......they give me a sad face, a pat on the shoulder and say "aaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww".

  • I work for a large corporaration and last week i was at our main office for a Phone installation-management meeting.  One of the guys on this comittee with me is a total creeper and is just a miserable person in general.  I hadn't announced to the whole company that i'm pregnant so a lot of ppl that i hadn't seen in a while were at this meeting and all of course going crazy about the baby.  Once one of them stated OMG your pregnant, i'm so excited for you!!"  He turned around in his chair (he was sitting in front of me) looked at my belly, turned back around and then said "DISGUSTING" under his breath.  Except he said it out loud and i heard it.  I was so in shock!  What an a*S!

  • About a month ago I was walking through Target and sneezed.  A complete stranger walked up to me and asked me if I had peed my pants yet.  I replied, "No, did you have that problem when you were pregnant?".

And, last weekend, my husband and I stopped at a restaurant for lunch after a morning out running errands and shopping.  The manager came over to our table and after saying "Congratulations", went on to inform me that he  had fresh towels and boiling water in the back...just in case.   I am not due until end of September...

  • Lurking...but when I was PG with DS, someone I work with asked me if I was having sextuplets because I was freaking huge!

  • Haven't had any rude comments this time around (yet) but the last time a good friend of mine gave me a really back-handed compliment by saying "Really, you look great.  The only place you've even gained weight is in your face." Ugh. Thanks.

  • I've gotten a few comments that now that I was pregnant again, I'd forget or feel better about the baby we lost. Nope, doesn't work that way.

Also, the other day, my dad told me to be careful because the chair I was sitting in (that he had just gotten out of) wasn't very strong and it might break. Indifferent

  • My MIL (who is normally awesome) asked me the other day if I was tired (sidebar: I always find that to be rude.  It basically means "do you know you look like sh!t?".

I said no, and said "oh, it must just be that your eyes look smaller since your face has gotten so much rounder".

    Thanks.

  • DH's coworkers like to joke (in front of me) about whether the baby is his or the mailman's. Okay, you idiots, that's insulting to ME, not to him... Eventually I started telling them to shut the eff up when they say that.
  • At work, I have been told a few times how inconvienent my maternity leave is.

Today I was told "I am not mad at you. I am just really sick of the preferential treatment you receive." This was in response to my boss telling me not to take Drs appts off on my timecard and just to make up the 15 minutes I am late for them.

  • One of the parents of one of my students from this last year said to me at a conference:  "So..._____told me you're expecting!  Congratulations!  It looks like it must be a boy, because a boy takes all your energy and makes you look tired.  You can see it in your face-pale and tired."  WTH?  That is NOT a compliment!  And...I ended up finding out it is a GIRL!

  • I've had a lot of rude comments through the months, people don't even say anything anymore.

I had an U/S appt at the hospital today and TWO completely different/random ladies literally just busted up laughing when they saw me standing there.

1 of them was in the parking lot smoking a cig- I just ignored her.

The second one was getting on the elevator with H and I- she started really cracking up, I said in a very straight tone "Wow, you're the 2nd person in an hour to just look at me and laugh" She responded with "Well, I've been there and it's hot so I know how you are feeling just by looking at you"

Fml. On what planet is it ok to look directly in someones face and LAUGH.

That was about the rudest I've ever encountered. I was pretty mortified.

  • The young guys at my work take great joy in telling me "My god, you're huge!" or "You're getting so fat!"

They know they're being bad and they know it's not polite, but they're also barely in their 20's and have no idea how to interact with someone who's pregnant. They're also making up for it by bringing little gifts to my desk like cookies and little stuffed nerd toys for the baby. My favorite so far was a little plush Yoda that one of the boys left for him with a note that said "Because you're mommy doesn't understand how awesome Star Wars is."

  • My sister (with whom I have a somewhat rocky relationship anyway) has taken to introducing me as "Fatty". As in, "This is my mom, Judy and my sister, Fatty". Even if I had gained a ton of weight, that would be incredibly rude, but my Dr. did a happy dance at my last appointment because I had gained and not lost weight. Friggin' Hyperemesis! My mom just about slapped my sister when she heard it.

  • An ex-coworker of my husband's friended me on FB when she found out I was pregnant. I rarely post anything pregnancy related and one day I said I got something in the mail I ordered and my stroller. She then goes on to comment that moms are bipolar. I asked what the he!! she meant and she just said I WILL stop buying for myself and just shop for Baby. It didn't even make sense.

  • "I have a picture of you at easter...but your pot belly is so much bigger now!"  I'm having TWINS for crying out loud!

My response was "weird, so has yours!" (Not my best manners at the time but it was 94 degrees outside and I can't stand the woman)

  • I haven't gotten much comments my WHOLE pregnancy. But a bunch of my extended family members and friends have been bugging the crap out of me to post belly pictures on facebook.

When I finally post some and my actual maternity pictures my hubby took for me  at 38 weeks (we are on a tight budget)-- my brother-in-law said jokingly that it looks like there is  seriously more than one in there-- and another one of my friend's mom agreed (being completely serious) and said it really does look like there is more than one. WTF?!?

  • There's like 5 pregnant girls in my department alone at work, and 3 of them are all due within like 2 weeks of each other. They are just now finding out the sex of their babies and talk baby stuff non-stop. And, they are all FTM's.... well the other day a girl came up to me (she works in another part of our department) and said 'You must not be too happy about having your baby because you don't talk about it like the others do'. WTF who says that! I was so mad afterwards, I was in shock I didn't know how to reply to her...

I'm 23 and have a 3 1/2 year old. Married with my DDs Father. This is my second. And yes probably my last. I'm trying my hardest to finish school and work full time.. This comment really hurt my feelings. It wasn't the first time I heard it.

  • It seems like there is no filter in people when it comes to a pregnant woman....my favorites so far:

    1. "You ruined a perfectly fine looking body for no good reason there." - really?! From a guy who's name I don't even know? No worries, buddy, you won't ever come close enough to actually suffer here.

    2. "This pregnancy has been nothing but a drag on me so far." - What? Well, I am sorry that I have had a rocky, high-risk pregnancy so far, but I have actually taken the time and counted the times I have missed work because of being pregnant - it's 7 days. I was on bedrest for 5, and the other 2 or doctor's appointments combined. That's not bad at all. And by the way, well, I am so sorry that MY pregnancy is f*cking inconvenient to you. WHAT?

    3. "You gotta call your doctor. You are not big enough for how far along you are. This baby must have died weeks ago!" - I told her to get the away from me before I would hurt her. Who the f*ck says that to a pregnant woman?!

  • I was at a shower for a friend that is due the same day as I am.  Her mom asked me when I'm due, I reminded her the same day as her daughter and she replied "Oh, but you're so much bigger than she is!"  The next week she saw my dad at the golf club and made a comment to him about how big I am.  Let it go, lady!
  • I hate when ppl say that just becasue this baby is a girl, and i already have a boy, that i *should* be done. Just because i have a child of each sex, doesnt mean i dont want more children...mind your own business!

    2. I was in the grocery store a couple weeks ago with  my FI, and some lady came up to me and randomly rubbed my belly and asked me if I was pregnant or just fat.

  • This was a while ago...but at 7 weeks I was asked by the local sandwich guy if I was pregnant and when I was due? Normally not a bad question but I was hardly pregnant and felt fat so I told him I was 3 months pregnant!
  • My bellybutton has never been much of an innie, so it popped early. Around 36 weeks, I was shopping with my husband when a guy looked at me and said, "You look like you have a basketball under there! And what's that sticking out? Is it his foot?" No, weirdo, it's my bellybutton, and thanks for totally skeeving me out. The odd thing was, this guy was with his young kids. Didn't he watch their mother's pregnancies?

Whenever we go out, my husband is astonished by the comments I get. "All the time," I say. "It's like that all the time." I don't want to talk to most strangers, but they certainly want to talk at me. It's the curse of living as a cold-hearted New England girl in Southern California.

  • ::lurking::

The comments that always ticked me off the most were the "oh you're just being hormonal". According to my family, I apparently never had any TRUE feelings or opinions - any negative feelings I had were SOLELY due to hormones.

What's worse than the hormonal comments *during* pregnancy? STILL having any and all negative feelings or opinions blamed on hormones at 6 months PP. And for the record, AF hasn't even returned yet, so PMS isn't even in the cards! I'm never "allowed" to have actual real feelings or opinions - apparently it's always hormones talking (unless my feeling or opinion is the same as theirs).

  • DH is a high school teacher and we went to a Teen Arts Festival where kids from local high schools sang, played instruments, and displayed their artwork.

As I was walking down a stairwell a rush of teenagers came through and I nearly got trampled.  DH announced, "Watch out, pregnant woman here," and blocked them from hitting into me.

As we got through the stairwell and into the hallway, a girl said loudly, "F*@k you and your baby," as she continued up the stairs. Indifferent

I was REALLY upset.  It was aggressive, and the fact that it came from a girl was even more disturbing.

Needless to say, I left the festival right away and got back into my "bubble of safety."

  • During my 2nd tri, I was working the register (I work at wal-mart) and I had a lady start screaming at her son, and then she looked at me and said "You didn't use protection?"

Oh yeah. She went there. The people behind her gave her this awestruck look and I just kept calm until she left and then went and found my manger to rant!
