is it possible to feel the baby breathing?

last night I felt what is maybe the baby breathing? I think its too constant to be hiccups and dont think it could be the heart beat. DH freaks out about the littlest things and things something is wrong and wanted me to call the dr. I have an appt in the morning but I dont see how this could be anything wrong.

    Baby is getting oxygen through the umbilical cord at this point, so s/he's not breathing. Babies practice breathing by swallowing amniotic fluid and hiccuping, but breathing as we think of it? Not so much.

    sorry i meant practicing to breathe. At our 3d u/s at 29 weeks the tech saw her practicing to breathe and tI think this is what is could be, just wanted to ask

    Sometimes it feels like Conner is putting his mouth to my belly (inside, of course) and making his lips do a motor-boat vibration...idk how else to really describe it, but it's the weirdest feeling Big Smile

    Really?!?! my LO did this last night! It felt like he farted! I swear to God, it was the weirdest feeling!

    Really?!?! my LO did this last night! It felt like he farted! I swear to God, it was the weirdest feeling! 

    I'd guess that would be your LO's grabbing and shaking their cords. I get this from time to time, too!

    Babies do not actually breathe in utero. There oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange occurs via placenta. They baby's lungs are fluid filled, they will not be filled with air until their first breath outside of you...They can swallow and suck, but not breathe! Prolly just hiccups! Weird huh!

    I definitely felt DS1 "breathing" the amniotic fluid. It was a bit slower and smoother than hiccups.

    I've had that with every pregnancy and I've always known it to be the baby practicing sucking. Maybe with a thumb in mouth or without. That's what I've always pictured, but I can't remember where I read it. My baby does it all the time...so cute :)
