Pregnant after a Loss

Weight loss during 1st/2nd tri . . .

I just wondered when you started to notice a definate change or increase in weight gain during your pregnancy.

At my 6w appointment I was weighed and my weight was what it had been, no changes.  But when I went in at 9w and again 14w it had dropped even more, because of wonderful m/s and food aversions!  Dr. didn't seem concerned and he knew I've had really bad m/s.  The 1st thing the nurse said was "I can see 1st tri has been rough on you!"

My question is when did you really start to notice the change in weight gain?  I weighed myself yesterday and I did gain 2lbs back but my appetite is slowly starting to return at times.  I'm not asking because I'm concerned about gaining/or not gaining I'm just curious because I know as I obviously get farther along the baby is getting larger, I'm carrying more fluids and so on . . . just curious.

  • I just had my 22w appointment yesterday and I have lost another 4 pounds!! :(  It is starting to worry me but my MW is not concerned yet, she just said to keep eating!  I am also still having m/s so I know how bad it sucks!!  Hang in there we will get there.

  • I probably started gaining weight in the mid-2nd trimester. I initially lost about 10 lbs, and sllllllloooooooooooooowly came back up. I got back to ppg weight somewhere in the 20s and by 3rd trimester I was adding to that into positive territory. I am up about 8-10 right now overall.

This exactly.  I had the flu around week 11 which contributed to my weight loss

  • I gained a total of 0.22 lbs in my first trimester. After that I started gaining a little at a time, but I would say I remember the biggest/quickest gain from 18-24w.

I didn't have m/s so bad that my nutrition was affected though.

  • I was much like you during 1st tri and beginning of 2nd tri, where I lost between 10-12 pounds because of being sick 24/7.  But probably around 14-15 weeks I really started noticing a difference.  My appetite had come back almost more intensely than the sickness had been.  I've only gained 4 of those 10-12 pounds back so far, but with how much baby has grown and how much I'm starting to show it sure feels like so much more.  My OB seemed pretty pleased with my gain so I'm not worried.  I'm only 17 weeks right now, and get comments ranging from "oh you can't even tell your pregnant" to "my how you've grown".  LOL!

  • I've always lost weight in the first and second trimesters.  With my first I started gaining it back in the lack second trimester and by the end I had gained it all back plus 15 pounds.

With my second I started gaining back the weight maybe around 25 weeks but because I had lost so much (and have some extra weight to spare) I actually weighed about five pounds less when I had my daughter than I did when I got pregnant with her.

This pregnancy I didn't start gaining any weight until very recently, like after 30 weeks.  I'm up maybe 5 pounds.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I lost until my 24w appointment.  I gradually and slowly went up from there and then lost another pound at my 32w appointment.  Since then, though, the weight has been piling on gradually with random jumps when I get really swollen.  I'm still under pre-pregnancy weight though (which is good as I weighed too much then).

  • I'm down 4 lbs and keep getting yelled at when I go in...but everything I read says it's not a problem.

Just trying to do my best to eat calorie-dense, nutrient-rich foods (avocado, nuts) and keep myself from losing more until my appetite (hopefully!) kicks back in.

  • I steadily lost weight until I was around ~20 weeks and then maintained that weight until about ~24 weeks when I started to gain weight back.

When I went in for my 29 week appointment I had gained back all of the weight I had lost (11 pounds).  I was really upset to have gained so much in 5 weeks, but my docs weren't concerned.  I had horrid morning sickness (well all day sickness really) up until that point so I was just thankful to be able to eat and drink again.

Since then I have slowly and steadily put on weight.  I'm 33 weeks now and up 4 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight.

I've asked my doctor several times about the lack of weight gain and they are not concerned at all.  I was bigger to begin with so I know that has a lot to do with it, but the baby is measuring right on track so my doctors have encouraged me to enjoy it and indulge when I want to.

  • I've lost about 12 or 14 lbs since my BFP, but I'm overweight to begin with. I chalk it up to aversions and eating better when I do manage to eat something. So far my doc hasn't said anything about it, but I'm still under the care of my RE who doesn't weigh me or take my BP or anything.

We'll see what my OB has to say about it when I switch over to her in a few weeks.
