Map of the US with the most popular baby names in 2010 for boys and girls. Gives me pause about one of our names (William): https://i.imgur.com/LThmZ.png

My DD was born in March of 2007 and we named her Isabell Marie. I had NO CLUE about the Twilight books. I started reading them December of that year and couldn't believe my eyes when I found out the character's full name! I don't know if her name would have shown up on any "most popular" lists, but I guess it wouldn't have mattered anyway to us. But looking at the map makes me think that most of the country is Team Jacob.

Nevermind, I think that was a dumb question. They are just using different colors for different names. I guess my brain isn't working yet today!
Thanks for sharing!
Oh please, don;t worry about that being a dumb question. When I first looked at it, bleary-eyed and half asleep earlier this morning I actually wondered how in the hell "Lake Superior" became a common baby name.
The map does make me worry about our future as a nation though when parents are predominantly naming children after characters in a poorly written trash preteen wanna be romance series.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the names Isabelle and Jacob. If just one of them were top of the popularity charts, I'd call it a coincidence but the fact that BOTH names rose so quickly in popularity and rose together... I'm sure there are a few people who didn't pick the names because of Twilight but, I'm equally sure that about 80% of the people who swear they didn't pick those names for that reason probably really did and it makes me sad.
It's not on the map, but Jack is also very popular right now and it makes me chuckle that 2 very popular baby names (Jack and William) are characters in Pirates of the Caribbean

Actually Jacob has been #1 on the Social Security name index for boys since 1999 and in the top 20 since 1990, so long before the Twilight book came out in October of 2005 (I do like the books, but I did have to look that up ). Isabella also started its fast climb long before the Twilight craze. Its been in the top 100 since 1998, was 45 in 2000, 14 in 2002, 6 in 2005 and number 1 for the past two years.
I am sure the popularity of the books and movies has influenced some people in giving their Children these names, but the author was probably already inspired to use these names because they were already popular and commonly heard.

Same. I always liked the name Edward until the Twilight craze, now if I named my future son that I think everyone would assume that's why I picked it.

What do the different colors of the states mean?
