traveling/sick/WTH is this... HELP!

A couple of days ago DS started getting really fussy... crying in car seat, needed to be distracted, tugging ears, hand always in mouth and then yesterday we flew to visit family and he is not any better... he cries when nursing, wakes up crying (He doesn't wake at night though!) .... cries all the time!! There has barely been a time when he has been happy for more than 30 mins. He kinda calms when he is in my arms, but not totally... he still fusses.... advil kinda works, but teething meds dont... tried the pellets and orajel.

Here's the vent part. I think something is wrong...  but everyone else has their GD opinions and it's driving me crazy.... "Just leave him alone" "He's fine, he's just in a new place" "He just wants mom, go take a break somewhere" "Maybe he's tired, maybe he just needs a walk, maybe he's hungry..." ARGH!

I need mommy opinions: What do you think it is?? Teething? Ear infection? Stranger anxiety? I am really tempted to take him to the doctor... we are here for 16 days, and he really as only met one new person and he is getting worse... this started BEFORE we got here. He also got an ear infection the last time we traveled by plane... not sure if they are related.

  • I vote teething/travel upset but if you're really concerned, I would find an urgent care clinic to get his ears checked just in case.

  • i would go ahead and take him to the doctor. it is stressing you out and you are the mother and you know whats best. everyone else can keep their opinions to thierselves, u need to do that YOU think is best!

sounds to me like teething but it could possibly be an ear infection. is he running any fever?

  • I vote for listening to your mommy instinct, I would think possible ear infection.
  • From my experiences being in a new place with new people can definitely cause some aggrevation like you are explaining to a LO.  If there is no fever, rash, etc then the dr. isn't going to do anything for you.  I would wait it out and see if it calms down in the next couple days.  GL and hang in there.  I know it is rough!

this! My lo did not have a fever with her ear infection.

  • No fever.... but he didnt have one the last time he had an infection. I might wait it out one more day and take him tomorrow, if it's bad... I dont want to go over the weekend..

I'm honestly not understanding why you haven't taken him already...

  • Sounds like an ear infection, and the plane could have made it more uncomfortable for him. Traveling though, does set kids off quite a bit sometime. I'd go have him checked just to be safe... GL!

  • Our DD has been going red in the cheeks, and tugging at her ear, stuffing everything in her mouth and fussing like crazy for the past week, and lo and behold, she's cut two teeth in the passed five days.

We've been seriously relying on Advil, as the teething meds haven't proven very effective, and she does not like the Orajel, at all. Have you tried giving him some frozen fruit or ice to chew on? That helps our DD sometimes.

This but DD hasnt cut her teeth yet. They are still coming. I made apple juice water popsicles for her. 1/4 juice and 3/4 water. she loves them
