October 2011 Moms

working ladies

How long is everyone planning on working?  I was planning on having my last day at work be Oct 9 and due Oct 19.  I work about an hour from home and didnt want to be driving home in NY rush hour traffic in labor! How about everyone else?

  • I'm due 10/8. My last day in the office will be 9/30 since I also commute an hour to work and don't want to be in labor trying to drive to the hospital. I will "work from home" the week of my due date and whenever he comes is when I'll stop working (even though I will really be done with work on 9/30)

  • I haven't actually looked into what maternity leave I'm able to get, but I'm thinking that I'm going to start using some vacation time up beforehand to go kind of part time, and then will go out about 2 weeks prior? Due Oct 23 so maybe sometime around the 10th.

  • I'm due Oct.25th and just figured I would work until then or I go into labor...

I still have to discuss my maternity leave with my bosses... I work for a REALLY small company and there isn't any maternity leave policy in place (only 4 employee's besides 2 managing patrners).

  • I wish I could leave work earlier than my due date, but my company won't cover me if I do. SO...I'll have to fight the 1 hour traffic each way up to my due date. No fun :(

If you provide a note from your doctor, your company is required to let you begin your leave at that time. My midwife will be providing in writing that it isnt safe for me to be that far from the hospital so close to my due date and that I have to work from home. The company cannot argue with that. If your doctor can provide documentation like that and you're able to work from home, or you dont mind starting your leave a week'ish early I would seriously consider this!

I'm due Oct. 31 and intend to work up to whenever LO arrives, if possible.  If I'm capable, I'd rather be at work getting paid than miserable and huge at home just waiting and using leave.  DH works in the same place, so he can drive me to the hospital if need be.

  • I'm due October 12, and my doctor filled out my paperwork with a start date of September 14.  I work at a university though, and the first three weeks of the new school year are really crazy, so I'll probably work until September 23 assuming I can continue to keep my chronic hypertension down.

  • I'm due October 21st and plan on working up until the baby comes. I will use up all my vacation/sick time for the 1 week waiting period before STD kicks in, then take 6 weeks off for a total of 7 weeks.

  • I plan to work until I go into labor. If I don't, I have to use my maternity leave sitting around the house. We'll see if that plan works or not.
  • I plan on working right up until the baby comes...although I am hoping my boss will let me work from home the last week.  We'll see what the dr. says as well!

They don't have to give you pay (through disability) though if you don't have a medical reason.  Something to think about.

  • I will be working until baby comes.  I kind of hope he is a few days late (even though I will not be thinking this in the end).  If baby boy is a few days later, I will have full paid leave until January 2nd.  I work at a college and have 1 week off for Thanksgiving and 2 weeks off for Christmas.

If LO comes early, I will be back to work on or around December 5th.  A whole month more sounds much better to me!

As long as your OB fills out the paperwork, you get paid 60% of your salary. I already asked my OB and he said he gives all his patients off the 4 weeks before the due date. He said it's standard practice among most of the Docs in our area. All my friends and family members have taken the 4 weeks. May as well, if you don't use it you lose it.
  • I will work until LO is here :)

I'm working until the baby comes!  I get 3 months and I want all of that to be with the baby.  I also work at the hospital I'm delivering at (and my OB is across the street) which is about 1/2 a mile from our house so luckily I don't have any issues with transportation or anything.

  • I am taking off at 36w. Maybe even 35w. I'm in Canada, though, so with a week's vacation, taking off early means I will still have around 11 mos mat leave (and I am sure my job would let me take a 12th month unpaid before returning).

Wish it could be sooner, to be honest. I'm exhausted, uncomfortable 24/7 and lacking in focus already.

  • I'm working up until the day of; with having to use my vacation time to take leave, I only have a limited amount, and I want to spend it all with LO. The exception may be if my repeat c/s is on a Tuesday; then I'll probably just go ahead and take Monday off too. I did this with DD as well (also a c/s).

  • I am due Oct 7 but expecting induction before then due to GD. Last time I was induced at 38 weeks due to GD and pre-e. I am hoping to hold out until 39 weeks (Sept 30) and work until the last day because God help me I do not want to go back to work the week before Christmas.

I will be taking 3 weeks off before my due date.  I will get some salary replacement through disability and my leave post-baby is already set.  i will be out through the end of the year, regardless of arrival date).  I drive 1 hour each way to wan dfrom work and DS was 1 week early.  i think I will be begging for some rest time before LO#2 arrives.  Sure, i may get bored, but I would rather be bored than miserably uncomfortable in a car for 2+ hours/day. I am just glad I have the option to go out early.

I've saved up my vacation time so i'm taking off 10 days before the due date and the disability for the 12 weeks we're allowed...i'll probably return to work around mid-january.
