A few people have mentioned to me recently that the second born is often a bigger baby. I"m really hoping this is an old wives tale because my first was 9lbs 3oz. TIA!
Mine were exactely the same size... 7 lbs 3 oz. It was funny because DH followed the nurses and drs. over to evaluate him and weigh him (DS #2) and when he came back he was all excited saying "guess how much he weighs!" I remember thinking, "I have no idea, why is he huge?! I didn't think he looked any different than DS #1" he was just excited because they were the same so it was cute! hahah
Both my girls were born at 40w6d and I gained the exact same amount of weight both times. DD1 was 8.1, DD2 was 9.5. At that rate, I'm just not going to have a 3rd
That said, I was on steroids for a week w/ DD2 (my health reasons) and overall didn't eat as healthy as I did while PG w/ DD1...so while I still gained the same amount of weight, maybe that had something to do with it too
CP 3/07 BFP 5/07 - Kylie born 2/08. BPF 2/09 - Alexandra born 10/09. TTC since 8/13 - diagnosed difficulty conceiving due to LP defect. Took vitamin B and Vitex Berry to help lengthen. BFP 2/14 - Missed M/C found at 8.5 weeks. D&C at 9w2d. Partial Molar Pregnancy. BFP 11/14
Nope. DS was 10lbs, DD was 7lbs 14oz. Both born at the same point of gestation.
Funny enough, DS was predicted to be 7lbs at birth by growth ultrasound and I was measuring on time/behind with him. I was measuring 3 weeks ahead with DD and by the growth ultrasound they told me to expect a 9+lb baby. lol
DD was born at 35w4d which explains about 2 pounds (she would have likely been in the 7 pound range if she had gone to 40w) but it doesn't explain an almost 5 pound difference. Nothing was different, no GD or anything like that. Just one small baby and one LARGE baby. It has been that way ever since too. DS is 8 months old and about 23 pounds. DD is 26 pounds and 2 years old.

My #2 was bigger than #1 but my daughter was always measuring way behind from the 17 week anatomy scan to the very end. My son was also born at 39w and my daughter was 38w. I also gained less weight with #2. My kids weigh the same amount now and they are 17 months apart (they are 20 lbs each!).
naturally DS2 was bigger than DS1 cause DS2 was born 40 weeks and DS1 was born at 37 weeks but even now he's still a lot bigger than DS1 ever was! seems like most of my friends have the same situation!
Second is usually bigger, though boys are usually bigger than girls as well.
DS was 7lb 14oz. DD was 7lb 6oz. For the first few months she was right on with 40th percentile, similar to him. Both my kids are now in low percentiles and DD is MUCH smaller that DS was at her age (from 4 months on). So for me, the 2nd child was not bigger.
Re: Was your second baby bigger than your first?
This is my fear as well since DS was 10 lbs!
She likely would have been if she gestated as long as DS. DS was 8lb 15oz at 39w, and DD was 8lb 13oz at 38w.
But it's obviously not always true. I was my mom's biggest baby, and I was the first of 3.
