2nd Trimester

bottle warmer & wipey warmer.

I have been undecided about these two things for my registry the bottle warmer and the wipey warmer. I have heard through posts that you don't want your baby to get use to these two things because when you go out you can't provide them with the warmer.

Some say it's a must to have. So I have no clue if I should add these to my registry,

SO in your opinion to 2nd time mothers did you use these?

Did you add these items on your registry?

 TIA :)

Re: bottle warmer & wipey warmer.

  • I never had either and never found the need for them.  I wouldn't waste the money on them.

  • I didn't have either and I won't this time around either. A wipe warmer just seems silly to me. DS didn't seem to have any problems with being wiped with a cool wipe. Also you can warm a bottle easily with hot water in a bowl. I did for DS and it was no problem. I just see these items as a waste and way to make people think they need them when they could get by without it.

This goes for me too!  I also heard the wipe warmer can dry out the wipes.  To warm bottles, I would just put them in a bowl of water that was heated in the microwave (water heated in micro, not bottle!)

  • These items were on my registry, but we didn't recieve them.  To me, they seems like a waste of money, and precious nursery space.  We never worried about the cold wipes, and DS didn't seem to care.

When I was nursing, there was no use for the bottle warmer, then when he went to pumped milk, and eventually liquid formula, we just brewed some hot water from our Keurig, and let the bottle sit in the mug for a few minutes.

Once he was on powder formula completely, we just used room temp tap water, and he never fussed about it.

  • i don't think a wipe warmer is needed...but i used a bottle warmer up until recently. i breastfed LO and pumped and it took alot longer to warm up the bottles that came from the fridge with "warm" water than it did with the bottle warmer! prob a minute or less vs. 5 min. if you have a child who likes it room temp that's great! but my LO was used to milk at my body temp which is alot different than room temp and wouldn't take it so i had to warm the bottles :(  i also had someone give me the bottle warmer they weren't using so i don't even know how much they go for.

  • eh i dont use a wipe warmer, but i do have a bottle warmer and i love it. i dont know if id waste my actual money on it, but i just got mine from a neighbor and it was fantastic. Put it on your registry and if no one gets it for you it isnt really a big loss! and if you really end up wanting it, maybe you can purchase it later and try and complete your registry and get a discount!

  • I had a wipe warmer.  Though, it took the poop off a little easier, it wasn't worth it.  As Riley grew out of her chaning table and changes happened wherever we happened to be, it didn't get used nearly as much.  At some point I ended up unplugging it and using it as a regular wipe holder.

As far as the bottle warmer, I found no need for it period, as it takes less than 30 seconds to warm up some formula/BM in a plastic bag under warm water.  You learn fast tricks that work best for you especially during night feedings when you're tired as hell and the baby wants to eat NOW.

  • I don't think either one is necessary. Cold wipes weren't a big deal (they really aren't that cold if the room is warm anyway) and you can easily warm a bottle in hot water like the PP said. Around 2.5-3 months we started giving DD her bottles cold straight from the fridge or room temp, and it never fazed her.

  • We never had or needed either. Room temp bottles were fine for DD and as for a wipe warmer, they just seemed like a waste.

  • I did use a bottle warmer. Cold milk did not sit well with DD's tummy. Plus it is just easier when you can pop a bottle in from the fridge, press a button, and know it will be the perfect temp in 3 minutes.

I got mine at a garage sale though for like $3.

  • Wipes warmer: think germs like e coli growing in the warmer. You rarely will wash your hands between reaching for the second wipe.

Bottle warmer: don't need because you can easily  warm a bottle in a thermos of hot water bedside or anywhere. (You should never heat a bottle in the microwave)

  • Huge waste of cash. I wiped her butt with cold/room temp wipes and put hot water in a large cup and dropped a cold bottle in it to warm it up.

  • I agree with everyone else..I have both and have NEVER used either. Another waste of money is the bottle sterilizer thing for the microwave... a boiling pot of water will do the same thing with a whole lot less preparation.

  • I had both and personally found it was a big waste. Especially the wipe warmer! I was always nervous to leave it plugged in when I wasn't home and when I was it would dry out the wipes. The bottle warmer was a little bit more useful but late night feedings once my LO was weaned off breast feeding took waaaaay to long. She ended up getting use to bottles at room temp (would use bottled water) or straight from the fridge!

  • I never used either. Always read the wipe warmers are fire hazards anyway.
  • Both are a complete waste of money.

  • I was given both as presents. I NEVER used my bottle warmer, took too much time for me. I did use the wipe warmer for night time changes for a long time though. It was nice because the cold wipes would wake her up, the warm wipes kept her sleeping. BUT i refused to use them during the day, I didnt want her getting used to them and throwing a fit when I didnt have a warm wipe for her tush.

  • thanks ladies...your reviews have been helpful. I wont be adding them to my registry. If anything I might just get the bottle warmer with a coupon later if anything.

    thanks again.

  • We didn't have either one - what we used to warm DD's bottle was the water thingy they give you in the hospital - since it was insulated, we'd pour hot water in, put the bottle in and check every couple minutes - which worked great because if we were out and about, run the bottle under some warm water and the job was done..  Otherwise, if we used an individual bottle of formula (usually we'd mix it up by the half-gallon), we could just add the right temp water to begin with..

Wipe warmer - totally not worth the $$ either...

  • I have a wipewarmer and still use it.  I found it was nice for changing her in the middle of the night or when she was sleepy because she didn't wake up or stay up.  It was given to us as a gift.  I thought the idea of it was ridiculous until a friend of mine told me she felt the same until someone bought it for her.  Her daughter screamed during every diaper change until she began using it.  As far as my daughter getting used to the warm wipes vs switching to regular, there was no problem.  They do sell a travel one.  We keep our warmer plugged in all the time and have only had a problem maybe 3 times with them drying out and in that case just add a tiny bit of water.  Is it critical to own?  No, but it was nice to have it.   As far as a bottle warmer, we didn't have one.

  • I never used the bottle warmer, but I had the wipe warmer and it was a HUGE waste of money! It would hold a whole box of wipes but after a few days, the whole set was completely dried out! Wasted a box of wipes and money on the warmer. I never used one time from it because they were completely dried out when I went to use them.
