Which I think is just crazy. I had to call in to work today and say I was ill- I live in Kansas and so far we've had weeks of over hundred degree days. Anyway, the air conditioning went out yesterday at my workplace and by the end of the day (at 9 at night!) It was at least 90 degrees in the building. I was overheated and not feeling well at all. They didn't get it fixed before I had to go in today, so I called in sick. I didn't want to faint or get overheated again.
What's sad is that I don't feel all that guilty about calling in - but I feel guilty because I don't feel guilty. This is basically just a rant.
Re: Feeling only slightly guilty...and guilty because of it!
Well, you probably would have gotten sick if you'd gone in! Pre-emptive sick day.
My company used to have "personal days" that you could use for doctor's appts and whatnot ... that way, you didn't have to lie about being "sick." This would have been a perfect time to just take a personal day.
