Possible toungue tied baby......question

So my mom and I were talking the other day and we have both noticed that DD might be toungue tied, she has some trouble with solids (more than just the normal getting used to them) and when i looked at her toungue she has very little space between the tip of her toungue and where it attaches on the bottom. We are going to the pedi next week just wondered if anyone has any experience with it and could tell me what to expect. Thanks.

Re: Possible toungue tied baby......question

  • Cooper was tongue tied when he was born, my OB noticed it right away.  What we had to do was find a DR who would clip it.  I guess alot of DRs don't do the clipping anymore untill they are older, but we decided we wanted to get it clipped ASAP.  Well hopefully your pedi will have a good name of a DR for you if your LO is indeed tongue tied and you want to get it clipped.  We called like 5 DRS and all of them said they don't clip anymore.  It was a mess.  Our pedi found a DR and that day we went and had it clipped.  It took literally 2 seconds.  I think it was more painful for me to watch than the actual clipping.  Here is a link maybe this would be more helpful.

  • My lactation consultant noticed and we had it done.  Breastfeeding was so much better afterwards.  Same as above, hurt me more then LO, I think.    They had to cut 3 times - she was really tongue-tied.   Bue she bf'd 2 sec after she was clipped.  Most pedi's in my area does it, so do ENT's.

  • As soon as DS was born they pointed it out to us.  LC's in the hospital had a DR that they recommended.  We had DS clipped the day after we went home.  Apparently it is hard to find DR's who will do the "clipping" b/c they view it as cosmetic.  Our ins wouldn't cover the procedure either, cost us $250.  DH and I didn't even hesitate b/c we thought it would improve bfing and didn't want him to have speech issues later on.  Just like the others, the procedure literally took like 15 seconds and DS cried one time and was happy right afterwards.
