Pregnant after a Loss

Meeting with daycare today-suggestions?

We are meeting with/ touring a daycare today. I feel like this will probably be the one we chose. It is supposed to be the best in our town and there are only a few others I would even consider. I have a few questions I want to ask. How many babies per adult? Will they feed him pumped breastmilk? How strict are they about sending sick babies home- i am already worrying that he will be sick a lot because of daycare. Are they cpr certified? Do you have any other suggestions of things to ask or look for while I am there?

  • usually its something like 4-6 babies per adult depending on state.  i think for newborns its 4, older is 6. yes they typically will feed pumped breastmilk, they are used to it!  Sending sick babies home depends per day care.  Most are very up to date with first aid certifications. My best advice is go with your gut instinct.  I found that Primrose near us was more "upscale" but I loved the director at Goddard and recommend them to everyone.

my only other suggestion is to look at the space and the amount of things they have to stimulate the babies.  do they look entertained (look in the older classes) or are they dawdling around?  I rejected a daycare because the space was extremely small and another because the kids all looked bored out of their minds.

  • I'm sure you went already, but it might be useful to know if they juggle numbers of kids at all.  At my son's daycare, they have some part-time kids (DS included) and sometimes they end up over the state's limit, so to keep the ratios the way they should be, they'll move a kid or two to another room where there's room for them.  They usually move them to the room that they'll be going to when they get a little bigger, so they consider it a way to "transition" them.  It pisses me off to no end.  I think kids need very consistent routines and I've seen it negatively impact kids, including my son last year.  What sucks is that I've felt kind of stuck there because I didn't want to keep moving my son around to different day cares.  Just make sure that they are going to be in one room with the same teachers until it's time for them to move up to the next room.
