DD has been taking a 3-4 hour long nap during the day in her swing, it is the only way I can get her to nap lately (I think she's going through the 6 week growth spurt). It's nice but I can't help but feel guilty like I am "cheating" because I'm not soothing her to sleep myself, and I can't get her to sleep in her bassinet or anywhere else stationary for that matter.
Also I've read that "moving sleep" is not as good quality as stationary sleep, ("Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child") but I honestly can't find any other way to get her to nap lately.
*sigh* Ah, the mom guilt. Vent over.
Edited to add: She does sleep in her bassinet at night, and pretty well- usually 3 to 4 hour stretches, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. We just use the swing for the one long nap she'll take during the day.
Re: Anyone else feel like the swing is "cheating"?
DD hates her swing. She cries immediately when we put her in it. If she would sleep in there I would definitely use that to my advantage so I could get some things done around here.
Consider yourself lucky!
My DD didn't think that much this swing, which is what we have at home. But we werre at my parents house for two weeks and they have this swing. She was IN LOVE!!! it was like she had never been in a swing before. So yes, we used it for almost all of her naps.
For the same reason you posted, we still had her sleep in her crib at night.

Lol. I was just about to post about this. For the past 2 weeks DD has slept in her swing. we put her in there for naps and at night. She sleeps all through the night in her swing. We turn off the motion part once she falls asleep. I think she just likes sleeping inclined. Before the swing she was sleeping in her lamb that rest on the floor. It vibrates and plays music. She would spend some time in her crib and bassinett but wouldn't sleep long there. We would have to rock her to sleep before and that's how I ended up with shoulder and neck problems. Well that and hunched over breastfeeding. I started seeing a chiropractor a few weeks ago and I am using my boppy now so I'm getting better.
I feel like I'm cheating too since she's powerless to that thing and always falls asleep but I love getting my sleep at night now. Pretty soon I want to start trying to put her in her crib maybe once she falls asleep in the swing. I probably better start now. I go back to work late August so I can afford to lose some sleep now.
exactly! when we first brought her home, she slept in it every night. i felt guilty then, but that's the only place she would sleep. now, there is no guilt
