Intro & trigger questions (kinda longish)

Hey there -

I'm BzeetyD and Mr. BzeetyD and I have been TTC/trying to maintain a PG since 1/10. We're in the middle of cycle 19 and it's been a long road so far with 2 losses (see siggy). I usually post on TTCAL, but most of the ladies there aren't as far into the journey as we are, so I'm seeking out some friendly peeps for advice here.

Long story short: it took 6 mo to get our first BFP. And 6 days afterwards we lost it. 6 mo later we were tested (CD3, CD21, HSG for me and SA for him) and found out I have low progesterone issues and a slightly elevated FSH. Was put on Clomid. Then Clomid and progesterone, which got us our 2nd BFP. Lost that little dream bean at 8w. Got a repeat pregnancy loss panel run - all negative. I'm on my fifth Clomid cycle + progesterone and we've added Ovidrel (HCG trigger shot).

Tomorrow I go in for my CD12 follie scan. I got a +OPK this morning (digital). If things look as they have the 4 other times, I should be ready to roll with at least 1 good sized follicle and I'll give myself my trigger shot a the clinic with nurse supervision/instruction.

Relevant Qs for awesome ladies:

1) Do you test out your trigger? If not, why not? Anyone with a shortish LP test it out?

I'm debating testing it out. I might just wait 2 weeks and see what happens. I have a 12 day LP typically, so IDK.

2) Any reccos/advice for a trigger newbie?

I'm so sorry for your losses and that you have to be here. To answer your questions:

1) Do you test out your trigger? No If not, why not? I test at 12dpo at the earliest and the trigger would be gone by then. I don't want to waste money on the tests (even the $1 cheapies). Anyone with a shortish LP test it out? No. My LP is short-ish 10-12 days. With progesterone it's 14 days.

I'm debating testing it out. I might just wait 2 weeks and see what happens. I have a 12 day LP typically, so IDK.

2) Any reccos/advice for a trigger newbie? Take your time. When you pinch your skin to inject, un-pinch once the needle is in before you push the plunger, this will help prevent bruising. Also, leave the needle in for 5 seconds once you've injected all of the meds.

I'm sorry for your losses. I tested out the trigger once and it was a disaster. I had a negative at 9dp and a faint line at 10dp. It ended up still being the trigger and it sucked.

However, I'm 4dpiui and I just grabbed a bunch of tests at Dollar General Embarrassed

Hello and thanks for the advice. With my short LP I get nervous about testing it out because of just that reason! I know pee sticks can vary, pee strength can vary - yada yada... I'm not sure yet. We'll see. Either way I might drive myself crazy! haha.

1. I did not test out the trigger or POAS. I waited for the beta results. I couldn't handle seeing another negative test and if it was negative (it was) I wanted to be able to talk to my RE about the next step. However, some doctors won't do a beta unless you have had a positive home test.

2. Pinch the skin and faster is better.

Thanks for the advice! I don't think I'll get a beta until I get a +hpt, so I'll have to test it out or wait for AF.

Pinching seems to be the way to go. I get less nervous with each response, so thank you again.

1) Do you test out your trigger? No. If not, why not? Anyone with a shortish LP test it out? I'm afraid of seeing a positive even if I know it is from the trigger. I have never gotten a positive test and I'm afraid it would kill me to see a positive and end up with a negative. I have had shortish LPs. My LPs were basically all over the board. But pretty much the only treatments I have had is IVF (2 failed cycles). For those, I'm on so much progesterone (PIO and supps) that I am pretty sure I my LP will be as long as the doctor wants it to be. Unfortunately it still hasn't given me a BFP. I did have one monitored cycle with my OBGYN. With it, she had me do a trigger because even though I was not on meds, I had two mature follicles. With the trigger, I had a 13 day LP.

2) Any reccos/advice for a trigger newbie? Try not to worry about it too much. It is pretty easy. With the IM trigger, I didn't pinch. Just put it in and injected quickly, but not too fast. With Ovidrel (SubQ), I would pinch, insert needle and then unpinch before injecting. I also inject this at a medium speed, hold for a few seconds and then remove the needle. You are doing Ovidrel, so it should be easy peasy! Good luck!

I haven't had to do a trigger shot yet, but just wanted to say I'm sorry for your losses. I know it's heart-breaking to have your hopes up and get excited, only to end in m/c. I hope this cycle works out better for you.

Thanks ELF, I appreciate that. We recently had a friend who went through IF 10 years ago tell us how "lucky" we were that we knew I could even get pregnant, and I agree, but the flip side is also hard to deal with, losing 2 possibilities/little ones we will never know. Either way, it's a hard road.
