Stupid $)@#*(@ FLANGE!

I have to pump while at work. It's not the ideal situation right now anyway. Because we haven't moved offices yet (which we're supposed to have done) we're in an office building that doesn't have many rooms, which means I do not have my private office yet, so I'm pumping in a bathroom right off the main office where the other people I work with sit. So it's a bit uncomfortable already. But today, I missed my first pumping session because I was in a meeting, so I was just going to "move up" my second session. I take my chair, go in the bathroom (it's a single bathroom), sit down, open my bag, start to put the pump together (I'm currently using a manual pump because I think my face would be bright red the entire time I pumped if I had to think about the men outside the door hearing the motor for the pump Embarrassed) AND THE FLANGE IS NOT IN THE BAG!!!

I decided over the weekend to wash the pump in the dishwasher. I usually hand-wash it because it's easier, but I figured since I had 2 days at home when I didn't need it, that I'd just put it in the dishwasher and let it sanitize with the high temp. I put every single piece back in the bag EXCEPT the flange!

I tried. Yes, I tried using the pump without the flange. I do not recommend it. I'm naturally a DD before breastfeeding. Yeah. So I believe I will be trying to leave work early to go home, feed DS AND pump.

GAH! Tongue Tied

  • I hear you!!!!  I don't even have the kind of pump with flanges, but I have left parts at home before.

Pumping is a PAIN in the you know what.

I only have a little more than a month to go, and am looking forward to it.

It is worth it in the end and you are doing such a good thing for your ds.

    hang in there!

  • Ugh, I hate when I forget part of my pump kit.  Sooo annoying.

Also, sorry that you have to pump in the bathroom.  We have pump room at my office but I know my boss (a male) would let me use his office if I asked him.  It could be a bit uncomfortable to ask, but I would in a heartbeat.  I work with a team full of men and it's necessary for them  to know where I disapear to a few times a day, and they have been very understanding.  Sometimes in meetings they will be like "let Lindsay go, she has to go to her special room".

Good luck, I hope things get better with your new office!

  • Forgetting parts is the WORST!

HA! My colleagues and I refer to it as "the farm." For some reason, that term makes it less awkward for the men.

  • I hated when I would get all set up just to realize I had forgotten a part! I pumped in a little room at the hospital I work at and everyone would wave bye to me and ask if I was cutting out early as I walked down the hall with my little black backpack. I also had one doc tell me that I must be a dedicated student Bc he never sees me without my backpack, I just smiled and said yep I'm dedicated!
  • Well, I didn't get any smarter when I left work yesterday either. I left my cell phone sitting on my desk at work all night. Apparently, people actually decided to call my cell phone yesterday because I missed 7 calls. Sheesh!

Here's to hoping I didn't forget anything today. Gawd, I need sleep! (Prays for a night of uninterrupted sleep)
