So my dd has been spitting up chunks when she drinks cows milk . After speaking w her dr , I have continued giving her whole milk cheese , yogurt etc and soy milk to drink . She's like a new baby . I just mentioned this to my coworker and she threw a fit . Something about soy milk being really bad for babies.
What's your opinion on soy milk ?
Re: What's wrong with Soy Milk
Here's a portion of an article from :
https://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=51615
The estrogen connection
The main concern about soy formula is that it contains high levels of phytoestrogens -- estrogen-like substances found in some plants. People who are worried about soy formula fear that these substances could interfere with a child's development and even cause early puberty, thyroid problems, breast development in male children, or other difficulties. Because of these concerns, a consumer group in New Zealand tried to have soy formula removed from the market in the mid-1990s. That didn't happen, but the New Zealand Ministry of Health did issue an advisory opinion to parents in 1998 recommending cow's milk formula over soy.
I think some people are concerned about the fact that soy is a natural type of estrogen (I believe) and the hormones aren't good for little ones.
Given that, cow's milk also has hormones in it. A co worker of mine freaked out that i have DS on whole milk saying it would clog his arteries (she happens to be vegan and thinks no one should drink any cow milk).
you could offer almond or rice milk is you decide its something that concerns you. DH is lactose intolerant and drinks almond milk and L likes that too.
my son is allergic to cows milk and soy milk so i have done a good amount of research.. i myself no longer have certain soy products. (i'm a vegetarian).
Soy now-a-days is regenerated. it's no longer pure. it has a ton of GMO which has been linked to cancer and other diseases. Soy sauce is pure (from what i read). i also eat temph, which is a soy product but not re-generated.
Soy also has a lot of estrogen, which isn't good for little kids (boys especially).. that's the main argument with giving kids soy milk. But if you can't give your child cows milk, than you either go to fortified rice milk or you do soy milk.
here is a good video that really opened my eyes to a lot of things i was eating - https://youtu.be/rixyrCNVVGA
it's geared towards food allergies but everyone can benefit from the video.
totally agree!
this!!
i would rather give my son a natural plant form of horrmones than animal based hormones in cows milk.
