There goes Mother Of The Year award AGAIN!!

Last night Dylan (18 months old) got locked inside our house.  My Dh and Justin were outside while Dylan and I were inside.  I went out to the garage to tell my Dh something quickly and came back to find the door locked!  Dylan locked it!!  I immediately panicked and was praying that the front door was unlocked.  No such luck.  I couldn't believe it.  And of course we have a spare key but it was inside.  My Dh who is calm as a cucumber starts to figure out how we're going to get inside.  All the windows were locked too.  He is not a Mr. fix-it kinda guy so I immediately doubt his abilities to get us in there.  I went next door to the neighbors and of course they're hosting a dinner party and are all eating.  I must have looked and sounded like a lunatic.  My neighbor and a few friends came over with some tools and eventually got the door opened by bending the frame to get to the lock.  I'm not even really sure how they did it.  And I had called my sister while they were doing this, as she has a key to our house.  They live 20 minutes away though so we didn't want to wait that long.  However, I figured she could still drive out in case the guys couldn't get the door opened.  So anyways, it all turned out ok but I felt so bad!!!  We could hear Dylan crying behind the door at first and then luckily he walked into our livingroom and stood by the window for quite a while so I could see he was ok.  He must have been wondering what the heck we were doing.  And I was also a nervous wreck because our oven was on.  I was pre-heating it and about to put in a pizza.  Thank god I never put it in or else that would have started burning I'm sure.

So......we now have a key in our garage and I will NEVER leave the house again, even just to go into the garage for a second :o(

  • OMG!  That is scary!  DH almost did that a few weeks ago.  We use a tension bar across the top of our slider in the back, DH put the bar in the track leaning upward but it fell blocking door shut!  Luckily, I was inside the house.

  • I was on my way home from a Moms' Only gathering just a few weeks ago and DH called to see where I was.  I was just turning on to our street, and see him standing in the front yard, with no shirt on and only his socks.  Apparently, he knew I'd be home soon, so he stepped onto the porch to see if he could see me on the street yet because him and Gavin were going to hide from me.  Well, Gavin locked the door behind him and then ran to hide!  Luckily I was very close :)

  • This happened to me a few weeks ago.  DH was home in the basement...but with headphones on playing a game..so he didn't hear me pounding.  After about 5 minutes I realized that my keys were in my pocket.  Now I either take LO to the garage with me or I make sure I've got my keys.

I'm glad that you didn't put the pizza in yet!

  • That happened to me last year.  I stepped out into our little entryway area to let the dog go to the bathroom and Reed slammed the door behind me and had been playing with the lock just before so it was of course locked.  It was really scary.  He was 18 months and Pierce was laying on the playmate and was only a few weeks old.  I ran around front and luckily the front door was open, but I was definitely in panic mode.  Oh, and about a month ago when we were in Florida we had two adjoining rooms.  DH was at a business conference there and I went up to the rooms quick to get the boys ready to go to the beach.  Pierce ran in the other room and closed the door.  The keys were all in the room he was in and Reed and I were stuck in the other room.  I had to call security and frantically tell them that my 1 year old was locked in a room by himself.  We were on the 12th floor too.  They rushed up and opened the other room for me.  I had a hard time squeezing in because the double stroller was parked in front of the door. Pierce was just sitting on the floor playing with sand toys.
