December 2011 Moms

Blah, blah, blah...annoying advice from a third time mom to be.

I just wanted to share something I learned that took me awhile to realize until I had more kids on the ground. If you are debating between a cheaper travel system or one that can grow with your family i.e. Uppababy Vista...if you can afford it...go with the higher end that will grow with your family and is of higher quality. If I knew then what I know now...I would have knixed the chicco travel system in a heartbeat and gone with the uppa or orbit. I have wasted so much money on a double stroller and several cheaper single strollers...it's ridiculous. I finally bit the bullet and bought a stroller that will grow with our family...since we plan on have a fourth someday! I don't want to sound like an annoying pretend know it all...but just wanted to pass something I wish I knew more about when we had our first.

  • Im not a second time mom but Ive heard this from so many mommy friends! That's why I decided to go with the Bumbleride Indie instead of something cheaper. I had to explain all of this to my husband who about had a heart attack when he saw the price tag for a stroller was inching towards 500, be he finally agreed. I want something I can keep and use for ALL my kids. If I have to buy something new for every kid cause it's a piece of crap then it ends up being more anyhow!

  • Good for you! Iam just jealous I didn't figure this out from the beginning! The amount of have spent on strollers way outweighs the adaptable system we just purchased...we plan on having a fourth so it justified it a little better! But still sucks!

  • I think this is very true in a lot of cases.  Our double stroller has worked great for what we need it for, our singles have come and gone, though.  I got a Chicco single off craigslist for this one as we don't use them much.  BUT, I am not stroller reliant (although, with 4 under 6, I probably sound like I should be).  I am more of a babywearer so baby goes in the Ergo/Moby/MT, #3 and #2 if need be go in the double.

My thing is all the stuff.  We have downsized soooo much from #1 to #4.  For us the changing table was a waste of space and money.  All of the equipment wasn't needed, etc.  I wish I had known that with #1!

  • I've heard this from a couple friends of mine and I'm glad to keep hearing it!

I've recently started leaning toward the Baby Jogger City Select for that exact reason.

  • I would say the same thing, only I would recommend the Baby Jogger City Select.  It is so much nicer than my old graco, and has the option to be a single or double, which I love!

  • I have only one kid so far [the other is baking!] and I origianlly bought an UppaBaby and have loved it - it's still in such great shape that I know we won't have to buy another one!

  • Thanks for this.  It's not something I would have thought about and we do intend to have more than one.

  • I love this thread! I am looking at the baby jogger city select w/ bassinet (and a regular seat). I have met a handful of people who all love the bassinet option for those early months to not have to worry about where you can lay LO down when you're out and about. It has different packages, so instead of the bassinet you could get two seats (to make it a double) or just one seat. You can also get a glider board attachment to actually make it usable for 3 children. I liked this in comparison to some of the other ones with similar features because it seems like as you add on attachments for more children there is still a decent amount of space (and view) for each.
  • I think it is excellent advice! Especially if you buy the better stroller in gender neutrals, it can last for several children.

  • The one we just bought has these skateboard type attachments you can put on the rear wheels for older kids!  Iam inlove with this feature!!  My 3 year old loves them because he is too big for an actual stroller...but loves the skateboard if we have to go somewhere quickly or he just wants a ride!  The weight limit for each is 50 pounds...the best idea ever!

  • Thanks for the advice, this is someting I'm struggling with.
  • Thanks for the heads up! I was dead set on the Chicco Cortina but have since re-thought my decision and am definitely looking at other options.

  • The most difficult thing to over come is thinking about future kids and what your needs will be...because thats practically impossible to have a grasp as to what it will be like.  I just want to prevent moms from making the same decision I really regret when expecting my first!  And I hope I can help persuade atleast one mom to think a little bit more into the future!

  • If youre only having 2 kids that are 3-4 years apart...then its obvious this advice is not for you.  If you plan on 2 or more kids that are close in age...this advice is for you...sorry I didnt clarify that.....

This is really appealing to me!  One thing, would you recommend getting the double attachment now or do you think it will be available later?  This is my first and I'm afraid that if we get this now with the intent to add on a seat when the 2nd comes (prob 2-3yrs) it may no longer be available.  Then we'll be up a creek...Any thoughts?  Thanks!

I am 100% sure you can get the extra seat later... I was going to get my second seat next year, but our plans changed and I needed it this spring, so I got it all together, but I am sure they will be making the stroller for a long time, and even if they stop, I am sure there will be used ones out there.  And they are always improving things, so I would wait until you need it.  Between the 2010 and 2011 model they added 2" in height.

  • I Yes this advice along with the advice that you dont need much for baby. If anything, we are getting rid of stuff for this one. So much excess!
