reflux mamas- zantac and loss of appetite??

Has anyones LO had a loss of appetite since being on zantac? My lo used to eat every 3 hours for 30 minutes like clockwork but has been really struggling to eat this past week and 1/2.

His reflux was getting bad again and so we upped his meds (only from .9 to 1ml). Pretty much ever since then he has not been interested in eating as much. He will eat for 5-15 minutes tops, and then get hungry again sooner but then only eat a small amount again. Now and then he will take more from a pumped bottle. I am wondering if it is the meds that are doing it? It does list it as a rare side effect.(I will be calling the dr. tomorrow)

Also- did it make the wet burps/sour breath/swallowing spitup that leads to hiccups go away? My son still has these symptoms (the pain appears to be gone for him and he is spitting up less)

Re: reflux mamas- zantac and loss of appetite??

  • My lo's appetite decreased due to his reflux, but that was before he started the zantak. He was eating 3-3/12 oz every 3 hours and he went to down to 2 at the most. Slowly he is beginning to eat more, he's been on it a week tuesday.  I was told that the zantak does not get rid of the symptoms but helps the burning sensation in their throat.  My pedi actually mentioned that it can sometimes be easier for them to eat smaller amounts, more often

  • The PP is right about the Zantac not getting rid of the symptoms, it basically neutralizes the acid so that when it comes up it doesn't hurt and make the baby uncomfortable. My LO still has the symptoms of reflux; choking, coughing and hiccups like mad.I use gripe water with a small amount of BM in something similar to this to get rid of the hiccups.
