holy cow-- she is illegal too but where she has a baby they are not rushing to deport her. And her mom is a citizen so she is somewhat ok but not totoally.
I dont feel bad either. They made the situation for themselves. And that's also why I feel that whatever citizenship the mother is, the baby should be too. The mother is an illegal, so is the baby, they can be deported together rather than be separated.
I assume her mother got her citizenship after she gave birth to her?
I thought that the whole point of an "anchor baby" ( I don't like that term) was to secure both parent's chances for easier citizenship?
if they have a baby together, isn't there another option for them to try to take a more legal path to citizenship?
I realize that by being in a country without going through the proper channels IS against the law...It sort of hurts my heart for them..there is a really good reason that they're desperate to be here. Every person I have met who is here "unofficially" ( and in Denver there are a LOT) has been a really really wonderful person. Hard working, very kind..I am generalizing about an entire group of people- but I think that people who want to "deport all the illegals" sometimes fail to see them for who they are. people in a bad position acting out of desperation and living in constant fear from it. I know it is idealist to try to justify why they're breaking the law....I know they're breaking the law...I just feel badly for them.
it sucks. all around it does.
I hope their family can be reunited (here, preferably)
ditto kevs...dont get me going on illegal immigration

My favorite verse!
Reom my dad came here with his parents and did it legally in the 60s. I don't feel bad for anyone here that is illegal when I have seen so many do it the right way
everyone has a story. Believe me, I understand how our system and taxes and all that works. But I'm surprised at how little compassion we have for people just trying to make a better lives for themselves...many of them fleeing extreme situations. The immigration process is difficult and many of these people don't even know how to navigate it, so it isn't as easy as --well they can go through the process and they don't.

Yes its a tough thing to do but if they want to get out of their situation then they should go through it. Nothing in life is easy
Like BOF I too have been close to illegal immirgrants and trust me, they are risking a lot by sneaking here but they do it in desparation. If you lived a day in the life that they have, you'd do whatever you could to better your family. Coming legally is not as easy as you think, so they have to choose to either suffer day after day, or take a risk for the sake of a better life. So while you say send them all back, are you willing to pay double or triple for the things you buy now? Because that's just one impact it will have. We enjoy nice produce that they pick for next to nothing, but to them our nothing is really a lot.

Yes, I am more than willing to pay a fair price for goods and services if it means that the people doing the work to make/sell the goods are paid fair wages. While I don't believe in illegal immigration, I also don't believe in exploiting people.
ouch- nothing in life may be "easy" per se- but being born into oppressive poverty and being fortunate enough to be born into even "lowerclass" american families is a pretty GIANT difference...
How do you know how you'd react if you were faced with such adversity from birth?
They don't even see it as trying to get here and beat the system- they see it as a chance to get here and try to make things better for their families. And most of them, with fake papers get real jobs (not good ones) and pay lots of taxes that they don't file returns on, so they're paying to be here more than lots of "real" americans...
I do have a sympathy for the fact that the family is being torn apart - that is always sad (especially for the kids) no matter what the situation is. However, I have no sympathy for being deported or anyone here that isn't here legally - I don't care what the situation is, honestly.
Even if you have to get her illegally, once you are here you should find a way to be legal ASAP.
wow. my opinion is really unpopular...( surprise...)
No, I agree with you! I have never understood what people have against illegal immigrants. They generally provide services that American would ever want to. I think it is just fine that they don't pay taxes since they're paid such menial wages, as well. I wish we had more programs which allowed them to enter the country legally and provide these services, like they do in other countries.

I think a lot of them DO pay taxes- the ones who don't just do private or farm work ( like at restaraunts, etc.) they can get the documents you need to work for 70 bucks (somehow) and then their pay is taxed- it just would be hard for them to try to file a return without getting caught. so the gov't gets theirs.
I wish it were easier too. these people love this country ( way more than I do! ) and I feel like everyone deserves to be here if they want to be.
People like to talk about what this country was founded on...but not really.
Look at Obamas Aunt who is living here in Boston she is illegal, getting welfare and living in state funded housing. Its people like that I can't stand. BTW I in no way blame Obama or think he knew about this
Yes, this country is founded on diversity (and I think that is great), but laws are there for a reason. I know that I sound harsh - and maybe it is because I don't know anyone personally that is going through this right now - but I just can't find sympathy for people that are doing something illegal.
It is when I hear stories like the one kevs just posted that I get even more irritated as H3ll about the whole thing and even more firm in my opinion that if they aren't here legally, they shouldn't be here at all.
I'm glad to see immigration law being enforced here. He should return to his home country and apply to come here legally, just like all the other legal immigrants do.
wow. my opinion is really unpopular...( surprise...)
No, I agree with you! I have never understood what people have against illegal immigrants.
Well, the fact that they are here ILLEGAL is the first problem. The second problem is they get on welfare, food stamps etc. and take services away from people who are here legally.
People are against illegal immigrants because many end up having their whole families here and we (at least those of us who work) pay taxes to support them. Another reason is they ARE working jobs that MANY legal citizens would love to have (I know a lot of people who clean homes and are not ILLEGAL and many construction workers that make as much as a legal yet he doesn't pay taxes. On top of that they live 8 deep (the men) in a one room hotel or apartment and send all (or 90%) of their money home so it is not even going back into our economy.
I don't feel sorry for them either. Obviously if her mother is here illegally and went through the proper channels then she knows the routine as well and chose not to do it. That is a choice both her and her husband made and now they have to live with it.
If we allowed all the people of the world to move into the US because of their poor living conditions... WE would also have just as poor of living conditions!

Where do you live?
Wow, I can't believe how insensitive some of these replies are.
Do you really think that everyone in America is,well, American?!
You don't have to be an American to live LEGALLY in America.

Kevs- so did my parents. But they had someone who was educated in the process to sponsor them, and the $$ to do it.
The entire process is so prohibitive. many times they lack the education, money and resources to do it properly.
And i certaintly do have sympathy for anyone who needs to move to a foreign country and clean houses to provide a better life for their family.
I know what the process is like and you know what a lot of people go through it. This womans mother did it so there is no excuse for it
