Food Allergy

Did a nurse or dr do the scratch test

We are retesting with a new allergist and doing a food challenge. I was surprised the dr said it would be a nurse with us and he would not be participating/would see me at the follow up appt. Just wondering if this is the norm as it hasn't been for us until now.

Re: Did a nurse or dr do the scratch test

  • first doctor we went to -the nurse did the skin test

second doctor, first visit -the doctor did the skin test

second doctor, second visit - the nurse did the skin test

i just figured it didn't matter

  • I've had 2 appointments where the doctor did the skin test and 3 appointments where the nurse did. Even when the nurse did I always saw the Dr. for the results, but the nurse did the actual tests.

  • For us, the nurse did the actual scratching but the dr was in the room and the dr was the one coming in at intervals to peek at the results. Both were in the room for the measuring at the end.
  • A nurse does the test and the doctor came back to evaluate.
  • Nurse did the testing and Dr came in at the end.
  • Both times the nurse did the test but the dr came to look at the results.  The second time I think they had everyone in the office come look at my poor back I had a 7 cm hive within seconds from the grass.  And they were worried that it wasn't working since I have hives from everything except the control.
