Has anyone delivered a baby vaginally when they had a hernia "down there"?
Here is some background: I have had a hernia for as long as I can remember. It is on the right side down about 1 inch-2 inches above my pelvic bone. The only time I ever remember I have it is if I cough. But sometimes lately I have felt the same pain I get when coughing at random times in the day, like if I stretch too far, or move weird. I also got a stretch mark in my 1 trimester right over where it is located. It was my first and, for the longest time time, only stretch mark.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this or something similar and how it affected their birth process, or what their doctor recommended. I have an appointment this week and plan on talking about it with my doc, but it is like prying teeth to get information out of her. She answers your questions, but never in a way that actually seems to convey all the information, I usually have to Google any questions or ask you gals to get the full picture. So I kinda need an idea of what I should ask. I really want to do an all natural birth (heck i would have elected for a home birth with a midwife, but my hubby turned white as a sheet and talked me out of it) and am kinda worried that my doc just assumes we are going to do a c/s (when I first told her about the hernia, she said, "well we will fix that up while we are in there", and this was at only 10 weeks!)
Sorry about kinda rambling. I am definitely not a short-winded person, ha. TIA!
Re: Hernia and natural birth?
Not sure if I have the same thing as you or not, but I developed 2 inguinal hernias (one on each side) within my bikini area. They have gotten swollen and achy the bigger I get since developing around 25 weeks or so. But dr said they won't be an issue to deliver vaginally (although they may get bigger b/c of the straining while pushing). After I deliver, they should deflate and for the most part 'go away' until I get pg again. My dr, and the surgeon I saw about them, both were not in the least concerned.
Although I am interested that your dr said they'd fix them up if you ended up with a c/s. That's what I want to ask my dr tomorrow - if for some reason I end up with a c/s, at least it'd be great if they can fix them while they are already in there.
