XP: Infant helmet

Has anyone been able to find an infant helmet in a size around 42 cm or so? All I can find are toddler helmets, and even Google and Amazon have failed me. Sad The pedi has ok'd us to put Nora in the jogging stroller and/or the bike trailer as long as we put a helmet on her, and I'm ready to get running again!

Re: XP: Infant helmet

  • Everything I have read and heard says to hold off on using a helmet (and therefore hold off on using a bike seat or trailer) until they are at LEAST a year old. Prior to that their neck and back muscles are not strong enough to support the extra weight of a helmet. So no, I don't think there are helmets that are designed for infants.

  • I've read articles going several directions.

Oliver is 5 1/2 months and we bought a giro me 2 helmet. It's super light weight and we put it on him in the Croozer when biking and jogging.

He is totally fine with it.

Caveat - he is STRONG. Everyone says this and he's a BIG boy..big everything. Our ped said it all depends on their developmental process and size. Oliver is bigger than a few 12 months old that I've seen. The giro me 2 has an adjustment head strap.

  • Thanks! Nora is pretty small, but has excellent head and trunk control and is a great sitter. Like your LO, she's a strong girl! The pedi gave us the go-ahead, and i think she'll do fine, so im not concerned. We bought the Me 2, but unfortunately it is ridiculously huge on her. :( We haven't tried it with the larger pads, though, so we may have to do that and she if it helps. I think it's supposed to only go down to 46 cm, though, and her noggin is ~ 42 cm.

  • Check out the specialized small fry toddler helmet, while they call it a toddler helmet, it is the smallest we've found.  They say it starts at 44 cm.  Our 14 month old has a small head and this is the best fit helmet we've found for him.  We also tried the little nutcase, but it was waaay to big.
