Trying to Get Pregnant

Question about timing of BDing

I see on FF that when you enter whether you've BD or not, it gives you the option of AM or PM.  I've also noted by viewing other's charts that some of them note whether it's in the AM or PM.  My question is, does it matter?  Are you more likely to conceive if it's the morning or evening?  Or do some people just like to be very specific with their charts?

Re: Question about timing of BDing

  • From what I understand it makes no difference whether or not BD is done in the evening or morning. I just use it to be the most specific.

  • I've seen some people trying to time sex for every 36 hours (rather than ED or EOD), so the AM/PM choice helps them keep track of that.

To my knowledge, there's no evidence that it's better to have sex at a certain time of day.

Thanks...is there a reason for timing it every 36 hours?

  • I have never heard any positive or negative against time of day sex.

I marked am or pm but mostly for my own benefit.

  • Great, thanks for the response.  I figured that it wouldn't matter what time, but I also thought I knew a lot about the way my body worked, until I read TCOYF!  I've been learning a lot!

  • It could make a difference, because if you think about it an egg can be released late on a given day or early, so if you are trying to pinpoint ovulation closely (or pinpoint your LH surge) then the timing of sex can matter. I don't know how much we can predict the exact time of ovulation, but I can imagine that having sex 12 hours too early or too late *could* make a difference...

I think they are just trying to walk the line between ED (every 24 hrs) and EOD (every 48 hrs).
