Anyone put a baby seat in a pickup truck?

I've been thinking about vehicles with the baby for awhile now and I am wondering if anyone has used an infant/baby seat in the back of a pickup truck. My husband has a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and it's definitely our good car and the one we use most often, and it has a back seat, but it's not an extended cab. Has anyone used a seat in the back of a truck like this? I have a small 4 door Hyundai Elantra and it's not the greatest - it runs fine and I would feel safe putting a baby in it, but it's our "drive it until it dies" car. Once we have the baby and have to travel around I don't know how long it will last and then we'd only have the truck. Does anyone have any experience with this?

  • I don't know if safety is as much of an issue as comfort.  If you plan on getting an infant carrier it might be tricky getting it in and out of a pickup truck.  Additionally, there may not be enough room between the infant seat and the drivers seat.  (I can't push the front seat in my car all the way back because it runs into the baby seat).

Also, when LO is out of the infant seat but is still rear-facing, it might be REALLY hard.

  • We have a dodge ram with the extended cab.  When DS was in the infant seat he only fit in the middle of the back seat because otherwise the seat was too big.  Also it was a pain lifting the infant seat up to fit in the truck.  When you go car seat shopping you will want to test whatever you buy in your truck.  BRU lets you take seats out to the parking lot and see how they fit in your truck..
