Hi every one I just wanted to introduce my self.
My Name is Trish I am pregnant with baby #2 at 38 yrs old. Baby #1 was conceived at age 36.
Mr. B was a total surprise. I'd had gastric by pass surgery in aug of 2008.
My surgeon did not tell me that oral b/c would not absorb properly due to the surgery. He did stress that I needed to wait 18 or more months before ttc.
I had a lot of nausea and vomiting but thought that was dumping syndrome ( a side effect from the surgery for many different reasons) Also my cycle was very irregular so missing my cycle was normal for me.
On father's Day I was experiencing pains under my right breast shooting around the back. We thought it was my gall bladder. My husband took me to the ER and they asked the normal are you or could you be pregnant questions. I had to force down all the liquid contrast for a CAT scan which the volume of the liquid was extreme for my tiny stomach. After all of that and trying to keep it down the doc came in and advised me that they could not do the CAT scan because I was pregnant. I was totally shocked. I felt like a teenager getting the news. I told him he was joking. He said they ran the test twice and were running the bloods. They brought in an ultrasound machine and I was measuring in my 2nd trimester.
This pregnancy was considered high risk right off the bat. I was technically 5 months post op and the fear was not being able to get enough nutrition for the baby. I ended up with gestational high blood pressure and hyper emesis. I ended up on bed rest from July to November. I had a hard time gaining weight. Had weekly ultrasounds from sept-nov. Finally November 4 I had lost 15 lbs and the baby had stopped growing and my blood pressure would not come down even on 2 different pills 3x per day each doc decided to induce that day. Induction proved to be less than productive. My bp was climbing and the baby was declining. We had an emergency C-Section and Mr. B arrived 4 weeks early with low blood sugars and trouble regulating his body temp. He was in NICU for about a week.He is now a healthy 20 month old typical boy!
I have now conceived baby #2 with hopes that this pregnancy will not go south like the first one did. So far the only issue we are seeing is that my progesterone levels were a little lower that what they like for them to be. I am much healthier and 125 lbs smaller than I was when I had my surgery.
Re: Hi newbie here!
Hi and congratulations!
Im the same as you, baby #2 at 36 and baby #3 now at 38yo. Life is interesting!
Welcome and Congratulations. I hope you have a nice, smooth pregnancy this time around.
I'm another who had their first at 36 and now pg with #2 at 38.
welcome and congrats on #2!!
I'm post gastric bypass as well - but mine was 10 years ago...I've had zero issues (hyperemesis but had that with #1 & #2 before bypass)
Being pregnant at more than 100 pounds down is MUCH easier on the body...as I'm sure you are finding out!!
