Cards from Baby Shower

What did you do with all the cards people have given you? Right now mine have a rubberband around it. I remember my mom putting some in my baby album but I have like 30 or more. Do I weed through them and just keep close family and friends? How did you go about organizing yours?

Re: Cards from Baby Shower

  • I'm very sentimental, and can't seem to get rid of things very easily, so I tend to keep all of these types of things.  I was thinking about getting one of those decorative photo storage boxes and putting shower momentos in it, because alot of that stuff won't fit in a book or album.

  • I will likely keep 1 shoe box of keepsakes from the shower. I have my cards from my bridal shower too- I just couldn't toss them. I'm sure I will one day.

  • With my first i kept them for a while, but then I just pared them down to people very close to me/DD because I realized that if I went and looked through my baby book I wouldnt care at all about the cards from people who were just aquantances of my moms, so I doubt my kids will want them, but on the flip side it is neat to have cards from my great grandparents, and see their hand writing and that type of thing. So I decided just to keep a few that might be meaningful to LO.

  • I used some pretty fabric to cover a piece of foam board, attached the cards to the foam, then hung it up in the nursery. I'll probably put them in a shoebox to keep for a little while once LO gets big enough that she wants them out of her room.
  • I pretty much tossed mine. Of course, I did not have many because my super BFF asked everyone to sign a book instead of a card. Most people followed the request, so the books all have nice messages to the baby in them!

  • Wow, you all make me sound so cold hearted. I threw them away when I was dont with thank you notes. If they would have had handwritten notes in them, beyond just signatures, I probably would have kept them I guess, in a box.

My older sister has her baby book with everything neatly put in it. I have a book with nothing in it and its in a box with a bunch of stuff my mom just threw in there. I never even look at it, so I don't see the point in keeping stuff you never look at. If you are good at scrapbooking, though, maybe make a collage?

  • I glued a nice envelope on the baby shower page of DS's baby book and placed a couple of my favorites inside.
  • Do like I did our wedding album. I put all the gift tags (u know "to ___ from: ___") with the gift written on it in an album with the sticky sheets. I wrote on a slip a paper underneath each what the gift was. With the big cards, I cut them down the seem so that front and inside could be displayed side by side (again with description of the gift given underneath). Then I added decorative touches all around and it turned out so awesome I have had friends who have asked me to do theirs. I also kept the list of gifts with names that you do so you know who gave you what for thank yous, but the hand writing on it was so bad that I just tucked it into the back of the album.
  • Wow! Lolinshag that sounds impressive! If you read this and have a photo of your album can you send me a pic to ladylisalt@aol.com. I love creative ideas!

  • When we got married, I bought a card box for our shower/wedding cards.  I didn't keep all of them, just the ones that were the most special to me.  There was still room in the box, so I added the shower/congrats cards for our first baby to the box too.  The box sits on the bookcase in our living room, although I will likely move it to a storage chest at some point.

  • I cut them up and made them into a collage on a piece of cardboard covered with pretty fabric and put it up on my baby's room. I also added some family pics to teh collage.

  • I personally don't really care for any mobiles that I've seen, so when I was on etsy I saw someone who makes Mobiles out of your baby shower cards. I thought it looked really simple, so I went out and bought two different size hoops, and some ribbon, and also two different kind of paper punchers. After my shower I'll take the most sentimental first and then the prettiest and punch out shapes and attach them to ribbon/fishing line and hang those on the hoops and tada! Baby mobile!
