Depends on what your numbers are doing. I didn't check mine like I should have with DD and I went a little overboard eating things I shouldn't have. When I went to my 6 week check up, my A1C test was too high. I had to go back on the diet and go back for another test. Once I watched what I ate more closely, the GD went away.
My OB and dietician both told me that after delivery, for the first two days, they will keep a close eye on my blood sugar levels. After that, I am to check "sporadically" until my 6 week checkup. If they are consistently high, I am to follow the GD diet until further notice.
Yeah, this. My fasting numbers are always super low (between 60 - 70) so I feel like a simple fasting blood draw is not going to tell them anything. My problem numbers were the 1 hr & 2 hr readings. But the thought of having to do another GTT makes me want to cry.

Crap. You are the bearer of bad news for me. I have the same two high numbers and that gross stuff makes me gag... SOOO... Yuck is all I have to say.

Dear God, Since I couldn't hold my little one in my lap and tell him about you, could you hold him in your lap and tell him about me?
After i had the twins i went back to eating normally. My OB did not ask for a followup. This time i am more "in the know" and will take a 2 hour test 6 weeks post delivery (don't ask me how i'm supposed to do this with a newborn at my breast but i'll see what happens). If i don't take the test, i'll at least monitor my numbers every once in awhile.
Last time, I just had to go in for an A1C test (average blood sugars over the past 3 months). This time the info sheet from the new endo said I have to take another GTT to make sure it went away. Boo!
I will have to take a 2 hour GTT (75 gm carb) at 6 weeks pp. I took it last time. I went in fasting, they drew blood, I drank the glucola. I don't remember if they drew at one hour and 2 hours, or just two hours. Last time, I passed with no problems. I am hoping for a repeat performance. An A1C would be a weird test to run since it would cover several weeks of being in an insulin resistant state. DH (an endocrinologist) always sends his GD patients in for a 2 hour GTT postpartum, too.
I had GD with DS2. They did finger prick tests a few times while I was in the hospital and said I was fine. So I followed my normal (non GD) diet. At my 6wk follow up, I was instructed to do another GTT which came back normal.

This for me, too. They drew fasting, 1 and 2 hours. I was allowed to stop testing my blood sugar about 12 hours after my daughter was born, and went back to eating mostly normally when I went home from the hospital about 40 hours after she was born.
