Bridal shower ideas

I will be throwing my BFF a bridal shower in a couple of weeks and I was hoping for some fun ideas for games/activities and maybe creative ideas for favors to give out. I have only been to a few showers myself and have never thrown one. Any advise would be welcomed.

Re: Bridal shower ideas

  • I'm not a game person, so I can't help much.

My SIL set a timer and the person whose present I was opening when the timer went off got a little gift (candle, socks, etc)

My SIL made hand-dipped chocolate pretzels

  • At mine we had the typical games.. Guess what the bride to be is wearing including nail polish, is she wearing earings, what color nail polish, ect.  They had me in the room and as soon as I stepped out of the room they told everyone about the game so no one knew it was coming and what to look for.

Another one was things about the bride- honeymoon destination, fav vacation spot, fav food, first kiss, ect.

For my favors they did little mini manicure sets with clippers, files, ect it was super cute. I think my BFF found them on ebay.

We bought a chocolate fountain at target and had that at the shower and it was a huge hit too.

  • While it's not necessary, I think it can be fun to have a theme and let the games/favors come from there.  I'm throwing a shower for a SIL-to be, and we're having a "English Tea Party" theme...so favors will likely be tea/tea cups/or scone mixes.  I tend to like favors you can eat.  I'm pretty sure chocolate has never gone unappreciated.

As far as games...I like a bingo type game while the bride opens gifts.  You can also do some sort of version of the "Newlywed Game"

  • At my friend's shower her sisters did a fun thing...they asked FI a set of questions and got the answers. Then, they wrote the questions on slips of paper and handed them out to anyone who brought a gift.  As the bride picked up our gift, she would say this is from Mary, then Mary would read her question, and the bride would have to answer it.  It was a fun way to keep people interacting while doing gifts.

(Is it sad to say I don't even remember my own shower at this point?!)

  • At mine we did bridal gift bingo which the guests played while I was opening gifts, we did a multiple choice quiz with questions about my husband and I, we did a bridal wordsearch...and I think that's it...I wanted to go kind of light on the games.

My theme was "girly", my wedding colors were black and white so we did that and added hot pink for the shower.  In addition to regular drinks we served cosmopolitans and then our favors were pink martini glasses filled with candy and my MIL also bought a bunch of nail polishes, toe dividers, tiny nail files you can keep in your purse...basically a bunch of girly things.

My aunt did this for my bridal shower. We just played it while I opened gifts, she asked all the questions. It was fun! She also did a cake that looked like our wedding invitations.

  • We did a fun game kind of a spin off of Price is Right game..

Buy 4-6 meal sets (like, bread + peanut butter + jelly, a box of mac and cheese, noodles + spaghetti sauce, a box of cereal,  etc) and put it all into 1 bag.  When it's time to play, take each item out of the bag, announce what it is..and your guests write down how much they think the item costs. Do this with all items and have your guests total up their guesses.  Collect the guesses and announce the person closest to the price you paid (without tax) without going over as the winner... and they get to keep the bag full of stuff!

  • We played what's in the purse game? They had a list of items ranging from typical to rare. Each was worth a certain number of points, whoever had the most points won.

  • At my bridal shower, my maid of honor called my FI and asked him a bunch of questions (15 questions about him), then I had to answer them, for each question I got wrong, I had to chew a piece of gum.

We also played a game, where I had on an apron with a bunch of kitchen gadgets pinned to it, and stood in front of everyone with it on for 30 seconds, then I turned around, and they had to write down everything they could remember of what was pinned on the apron.

  • Quite honestly, games suck. They're not the reason I go to a shower, at all.

For my sister's we did newlywed style game. We asked both she and BIL the same questions to see if they would match. That was fun. Please don't make toilet paper dresses. That's the worst.

Edible favors are always best. I did decorated cookies for my sister, and will do them again for my friend's shower in August.

  • For my sister's, my other sister asked her fiance a bunch of questions.  She made a video of the questions and his answers.  At the shower, she asked my sister the same questions and then played her fiance's answers.  All of the guests guessed how many questions they'd match on, and the ones with the correct answer or closest (I think we did the three closest) got a prize.

I went to a shower last week where the mother-of-the-bride had written down a number of things that might be in a purse on slips of paper.  When the bride opened your present, you reached in and got a slip.  If you had the item on the paper in your purse, you got a prize.

Have fun planning!  BTW - google "hostess with the mostess."  It's a great party-planning site.
