hi all. i have been lurking here for a few weeks, gathering CD knowledge. i used sposies with DD1 and am considering at least part time CD for baby 2 due in november. for different reasons, i feel drawn to the above brands. now, i have yet to see any in person due to lack of CDs in stores near me, but i hope to change that soon. i love the theory of being able to use disposable inserts in certain situations. however, i feel like when i look at certain grovia diapers, and some of the gdiapers, i feel confused as to what i need for the non disposable part. there are so many different inserts and items! this might sound silly, but is there a post, or website, or just you all's general knowledge with this info in one place of which diaper requires what? i am not sure why i feel so overwhelmed!
i looked in the FAQs and didnt see anything quite like this. thanks so much for any help!!!
Re: newbie help--flips, grovia, gdiapers
Have you visited any of the retail sites? Like Jillian's Drawers, Kelly's Closet or Abby's Lane? Maybe if you see how they are sold it will help you see what needs what. Another good place to start would be going to each individual brand site.
I use Flips on a pretty regular basis. They're pretty simple. You get the cover which is the colorful outer part that makes it waterproof and then you have the inserts. There are two kinds, a microfiber Stay Dry insert or an organic cotton one. Both serve the same purpose, just a persona preference. We love the organic at night, it's super absorbant! A little bulky for daytime, so that's when we use the staydry. Trim, but still absorbant and as the name suggests, keeps baby feeling dry because of the fleece layer on top. The inserts just lay into the cover. I can usually reuse the covers throughout the day unless he has a messy poop.
GroVia's are pretty straigh forward since they only have one insert choice. It snaps into the cover. I use these but didn't like them as well. They seems to run a little smaller in terms of rise and I found them to be bulky. Lots of people love them. I do have some of the biosoakers which are the disposable kind that I use my Flips occasionaly. I like that they have gussets to keep things in.
Have not used gDiapers, but I believe their cloth insert is called Gcloth. This system also has 3 parts where the above only have 2. There's the outer cover which is a soft knit. (not waterproof) Then there's a plastic liner that snaps in to make it waterproof. Then you have the absorbant part, either cloth or disposable.
HTH!

Welcome!
Grovia All in Twos (hybrid) have a waterproof shell and you can use disposable biosoakers or snap in organic cotton soakers. Grovia also makes an all in one diaper, which could be confusing. These are all one sized.
G-Diapers have a cloth shell, a waterproof snap in liner, and then a disposable insert or a g-cloth insert. They just have an extra piece (snap in liner) since the shell is not waterproof. The snap in liners come with the g-pants (shell). You will have to buy different sizes.
Flips are my favorite of these. They have a waterproof shell and then you can use disposable inserts, stay dry (microfiber/suedecloth) inserts, or organic cotton inserts (sort of like a prefold). These are one sized, although they make a newborn stay dry insert size now.
