Making the switch from bottle to sippy cup

I'm just looking form some advice on how I can transition my 11 month old from the bottle to the sippy cup.  She will occasionally drink her water from a cup but when I put formula in there, she flat out refuses to drink.  I want to make this transition as easy as possible for her and don't want to scare her away from the cup by pushing her too hard.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  • I've heard whatever they're used to being in the bottle (formula or BM), you're not supposed to put it in the sippy because they expect it to be in the bottle. Can you wait until you transition to WCM (or whatever non-formula milk you choose) to try to introduce the sippy?

  • When we made the switch, it was cold turkey. If she didn't want to take milk from the sippy, she didn't get milk. We're horrible parents like that.

  • The doctor wants us to slowly introduce whole milk to her.  I feel like the only way to do that and get her to actually drink it would be to put it in the bottle.  It's very frustrating she would rather not drink than drink from the sippy.  She would go for house without drinking if I let her.  People keep telling me she will drink from  the cup if hungry enough but I am afraid she won't...  :(

We slowly introduced whole milk in the bottle; you can make this two separate transitions. We did half formula, have milk in a bottle for a few days. Then when she was fully transitioned to milk, we waited another week to make the switch to sippys. It was rough for the first day, but she was completely off of the bottle in three days.?

  • For us we had to try different types of cups before we found one that he liked (cup #4). I would offer him formula in the cup or water and there was a lot of fighting, but eventually he took it. Don't give up, it will happen!

I just attempted to go cold turkey today w/ DD.  She wasn't a fan.  Though, she'll take juice/water out of sippy like a champ, but, didn't want anything to do with BM.
