Nesting and mini-melt down. all is good now

So today I was supposed to be cleaning out my closet and I got side tracked. I found my hospital bag from DD (still half way packed). I went downstairs to where the clean laundry was and set aside the clothes I wanted to pack (pj's and a coming home outfit for me). I started going through what was already in the bag and found my camera (which wasn't charged when we had DD---stupid mistake) I searched for the charger and found it and DH's camera and charged both so I could pack them. Then I went on the hunt for my FLIP camera (mini-camcorder that I love so much). I knew about where it was so it didn't take too long to find. I plugged it into DH's computer to charge and nothing happened (it's plugs into the USB drive so when the computer didn't recognize it was even there to me that meant nothing happened). We'd had this problem when we first bought it and called the help desk and they told us to reset it. I started panicing...my heart stopped, I couldn't breathe, I was too freaked out to even cry. The last 3 videos of DD were on the camera. They were the only videos taken after her breathing tube was removed and she was still alive. DH and I never loaded them onto the computer because we just haven't been able to bring ourselves to watch them yet. The only thing going through my mind was that I was going to have to reset the camera and those videos would be gone forever. I took the camera out of DH's computer and plugged it into mine and still got nothing. I restarted my computer and still nothing. I tried turning the camera on but it was dead...nothing.

By this point I was shaking. I thought it was all gone. I left it plugged into the computer, nervously did some more stuff around the house, packed more of my bag, made a list of what else I needed (about an hour total) and all of a sudden I hear a dinging noise coming from my computer, I looked at the screen and the happiest thing pops up. It recognized that there was something in the USB drive, the screen on the FLIP was lit up and it was asking me if I wanted to load my videos to the computer (obviously I said yes). So it's loaded. DH is coming home Friday with a flash drive so we can back up all of the videos of DD (in case something happens to either of our computers--the rest of the videos are on his) and we're putting the flash drive in our safe) because you never know, theft, flood, electrical surge, anything could happen and I don't want to feel that kind of panic every again. He and I both agreed that we still don't have it in us to watch the videos, but at least we know they're there waiting for us when we're ready.

So after all that, all the cameras are charged and packed, everything else is packed. I have 2 things I need to run to the store and get (deodorant and toothbrush/toothpaste) and then the bag is packed. I also need to pick a coming home outfit for this LO.

Tomorrow I have to clean out the pantry to I can fit the high chair, the water cooler and stroller inside AND I have to hang the shelf in our room to put DD's things on (her piggy bank, her hand/foot molds, her christening stuff, all of her hospital bed momentos, etc AND I HAVE to put away my laundry. I just got so side tracked with fear today that I didn't do any of that.

  • Oh my goodness. I couldn't imagine the panick! I am so happy for you that it got working again. That would be so terrible if those were lost. I know the feeling. I lost some extremely important photos from my computer crashing. I was crushed.

  • I'm so glad that your videos weren't lost. And good choice to put them on USB and into a safe. How scary!
