Can you host your own "meet the baby" shower/party?

I want family and friends to be able to meet the baby after she is born. My MIL and a couple other people didn't make it out to my baby shower because they wanted to wait until she was born.

I was just wondering if it's appropriate to host your own "meet the baby" shower/party? I figure it's something that I would throw myself because she's my baby and I am asking people to come meet her (it's not a shower for me).

What are your thoughts?

Thanks, ladies. I will call it a "meet the baby" BBQ and have DH do some grilling! Smile

It is fine...but I agree with the pps "don't call it a shower". We did a "Meet the Baby BBQ" and actually had a "Wecome --" cake. I would not mention gifts at all. Many people will bring them even if they came to the shower but it will be mostly clothes, diapers, books - things that are smaller.

Have a "Meet the Baby party" and do not include any registry info in the invite.

I was thinking about having a Meet the baby party after the baby is here since this is our 2nd little one and won't be having any showers. We are due in Decemeber though so not sure how it will all work out with the holidays in there.
