Trying to Get Pregnant

Experience trying to conceive after postpartum uterine infection/endometritis

I guess I am looking for some reassurance. Has anyone had any experience in trying to get pregnant after a postpartum uterine infection following their first child? I had a very mild uterine infection with a slightly increased temperature and just some uterine tenderness, nothing showed up on the ultrasound and they don't think anything made it to the tubes or ovaries, I was treated with antibiotics for a week and the tenderness went away, this was 11 weeks postpartum though. I have read all of this really scary stuff online and am just terrified that some permanent damage was done.

  • I have never experienced this as I am working on my first, but the worst thing you can do is look online for answers. You will always fine stuff that will scare the crap out of you. Have you talked to your doctor about it?

  • Yes the internet is making me a little crazy right now. The doctor just kind of shrugs it off unfortunately. I hate to be so paranoid, I feel like when I ask about it I sound like a loon. She just basically says we'll have to wait until I try to get pregnant again, though she does say it is unlikely. Which I'm still breastfeeding so I won't get a good idea of that anytime soon. I just wanted to see if anyone dealt with the same thing and had success or trouble afterwards to give me peace of mind. Good Luck and Prayers!
  • Rindy - uterine infections *can* cause fertility problems (scarring, adhesions, etc) but each case is different and that doesn't mean you will have trouble. My younger sister got a uterine infection with her second and had no issues conceiving her third (unfortunately, she got the same infection with her third, so now I am a tad concerned but there's no use in worrying about problems that may not even exist - hard to do, I know :)).  Let your body heal, and just try to enjoy your new little one for now!

Just fyi, a significant percentage of women experience a return to fertility after six months of breastfeeding even if they continue breastfeeding.

  • well...not sure if i should even answer since it is not what you want to hear...

but i got an infection at 10 days pp....had to have my incision re-opened and drained.

anyway, fastforward to now and it has been 28 cycles since i started ttc #2.  my RE ran tests and my tubes are clear (which is the concern about infection pp), but i cant help but feel like something changed after i had ds

~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~

I also had a uterine infection about 4 days pp after I had DS.  I have no idea if it effected our ability to concieve our 2nd time but it did take a lot longer.  My infection was pretty serious and I had to be hospitalized for 3 days.  We concieved DS in one month and this time it took us 12 months to get pregnant.  Good luck!
