If LO goes to In-home daycare...

would you mind sharing how much you pay, what hours LO is there, and what does that include: food, diapers, etc? I am thinking of doing this when we move and get into a bigger home, but wanted to see what the going rate is. I have no experience with in-home, but I do have a B.A. and M.A. in elementary ed and a 19 month old. :) TIA!

I would talk to linzpinz...  she started an in home daycare a few years ago.  GL!

  • We paid $30/day.  We sent diapers and formula, but when she got older, lunch and snacks were included.  We had a very bad experience (LONG story) once she got older, and I would never try that again, but I think $30/day is super cheap, and you could ask for $40 if you include food and drink.  We pay $600 a month for daycare center at 3 days a week.  Full time is $881 a week (2 year olds...higher for younger babies).  Just so you have something to compare to.  It is costly, but I love what they do with DD, and she loves them more.

  • I agree-- page Linzpinz. Her in-home daycare has been pretty much full since she started. I want to say she charges $160 or so a week for full-time care, but that might have gone up. We paid $150 a week for in-home care a couple years back and that didn't include any food, diapers, wipes, etc.

  • Our sitter charges $30 per day.  It includes lunch and 2 snacks.  During the school year, I take DS 4x per week from 7:30-4:30.  During the summer, I take him 2x per week but he tends to go from 9-4:30.  Our sitter does claim it on her taxes so we get to claim it as well!

  • We pay $25 a day for our sitter.  LO is usually there from 7:30 - 4ish.  We provide the diapers, wipes, and formula.  It's also nice because if he has to miss a day then we aren't obligated to pay for it.  I am really happy with our sitter and LO loves her.

  • 7AM-4:00/4:30 and we pay $25 per child.  I take breakfast for them because they are the first kids there so she doesn't provide breakfast for any of the other kids (except for milk), but she provides lunch, drinks and any other snacks.  I provide everything else they need like diapers, wipes etc.

  • I watch 2 other children in home and get paid $45 a day.  Right now they bring their own food and diapers.  Once older I will provide food as well.  Good luck!

I was going to add that I think providing diapers would be difficult...  changing sizes, lots of different brands, skin sensitivity, etc...  I would have them provide formula/EBM, but after the first year then provide food.
  • We pay $25/ day for our sitter.  We have to provide formula, dipaers, and wipes, but once she is old enough to eat regular food- that will be included.  She watches her M-Th about 8 - 5:30.  She doesn't work on Fridays, which gave me an excuse to take Fridays off work.

  • We are in NKY and we pay 25 dollars a day.  I provide diapers, and I pack B's breakfast and lunch, although she never asked me to pack food.  I just don't expect her to provide food for him, although she does give him snacks or other extras.  FWIW, he was the only child she had last year, and she isn't a certified daycare provider (she's an acquaintance from church).

  • Alice goes  to an inhome 4 days a week.  We pay 35 per day, I provide diapers and she provides breakfast, lunch and snacks.  For the summer as she has some extra kids she asked us to provide lunch.  We are only going 1 day per week during the summer.  I am off (teacher)  If i know ahead fo time Alice will not be there I am off or whatnot we do not pay.  If she is sick we do pay.  The provider is being super flexible for the upcoming school eyar sould I decide to sub and it will be pay as Alice goes.  I am hoping to find steady work though

  • I do in-home childcare.  I taught elementary school for 5 years and then decided to do this after I had C.  ( I actually went back to work from December til the end of the school year and it just wasn't for me.)

I only watch children of teachers full time.  Which means that I do not have to work full time over the summer!  But it also means that I take a huge hit to my income over the summer.  :(  I changed my policy a little bit for this coming school year, since I am keeping all the kids I had last year and everyone teaches in the same school district and is on the same schedule.  When I first started I was open every day except for major holidays and also had my hours set at  7-5 everyday.  If I was closed, they didn't have to pay me and I also gave them a week of vacation where they didn't have to pay.

For this year, my hours are 7-5 T and TH and 7-4 MWF.  I am only open when teachers have to be at work.  If they have the day off, so do I.  I charge $165 per week and they pay me for every day during the school year, except there are 5 holidays which I do not require payment for.  I do not require them to pay me over the summer or bring their kids.  If they want to bring them over the summer, they just pay for that day.

I provide food once they are eating all table food.  I serve balanced meals that consist of many organic and/or natural foods.  They provide diapers and wipes.  We have a consistent routine that consists of art projects, outside/gross motor activities, and read alouds daily.

The only other thing I would mention is that this job is HARD work!  It is physically challenging to be on your feet all day, lifting children, getting up and down off the floor, etc.  And the amount of time I spend cleaning our house, grocery shopping, prepping food, looking up activities and ideas online... I spend a lot of time working even when I am not.  Then if someone gets sick, all the toy cleaning and sanitizing that goes on over here is ridiculous!

I love what I do and I am so happy that I am able to do it.  Taking care of children can be very challenging.  Sometimes it is so LOUD over here!  But I always remember that nap time is just around the corner!  ;)  And it is a very rewarding job.  I love that I get to be a third parent to these children and they are really just like family.  And my DD loves having her friends over to play everyday.  I feel like with the situation I am in with watching teacher's kids, I get the best balance of working and also family time.  And it has been so beneficial for my DD too - I don't think I would have taken as much time to stop and play with her, if I wasn't getting paid to do it.

Sorry this is so long!  You can page me or find me on FB if you have any questions!  GL!  I love seeing other elementary teachers start doing this, it is really nice to have so much knowledge and experience with child development when you are caring for so many children!

  • $100 a week and that includes food.  She also charges me for the summer, even though the kids don't go there full time now, but it is to save our spot which I think is common from what I hear from some of my other teachers experiences.  That includes food only for my oldest.  Baby food, formula, wipes, bottles, etc. I provides.  I do know that she has purchased some items on her own dime, a PNP and exersaucer come to mind.  She isn't super strict on time, but I go there from about 7am-4 or 5pm.  I kinda wish she'd give us a family discount, but oh well.  Our contract says we get 5 sick days, but we just pay them anyways as a bonus if you will to her.
