So I just called my ob's office b/c I've been lightheaded all day. This has never happened before and I was concerned. When I called and explained what was going on, the nurse just said "well go see a doctor." This was after being stuck on hold for a while. I am pretty frusterated right now, This isn't the first time they have told me this when I have called about a concern.( 2nd time I've ever called) I like my doctor but her office staff sucks!
What do you think, enough to start thinking about switching to a new ob?
Re: vent and what do you think?
umm, isn't that what you were trying to do? It depends on how much you like your doctor. If you really like your doctor and don't want to switch, I would maybe bring it up with him/her about how you're treated by the staff. If you don't care, maybe switch, but remember it could be just as bad somewhere else. I have this problem a lot, where I love my doctor but I don't like the receptionist or whatever. I used to hate the lady at my OB but I guess she retired or something, because they're all newer now.
This, particularly the bolded part. That was an insenstive comment and uncalled for. I would call back and insist on either speaking with or seeing the DOCTOR and no one else. If they refuse, find a better doctor. You have time!
I understand being frustrated, but to be fair, lightheadedness during pregnancy can mean something or nothing. Therefore, my experience has been that the nurses will not even try to tell you what they think is going on over the phone. With some symptoms we have while pregnant, there are just too many variables. I had a lot of lightheadedness/passing out during the 1st Tri, so I've been there and it sucks! I'm sorry you're dealing with this, but I wouldn't ditch your OB just yet. Like pp's have said, perhaps you should have a conversation with your doc or office manager about the situation if you really feel they were out of line.
I don't think it's a huge deal. When in doubt, nurses will typically tell you go to see someone. It's a liability thing-- if they tell you not to worry, and something ends up being wrong, then they could be held liable for that.
Where I live, speaking to a doctor over the phone is a non-option-- as in, never happens. So you can make an appt with your dr (or go to L&D if you feel it's warranted) or wait it out if you don't think it's serious. Dizziness may just be dehydration or low blood pressure, but better safe than sorry.
