I just fed ds (one sided eater) at 7:30, burped him and then pumped both sides for 15 minutes. I only got just under an ounce and half total. I'm not thinking this is so good. And does what comes out when I pump equal what he gets when he eats (side he didn't nurse from only gave an ounce, is that all he would have got if he'd been nursing that side?) when he nurses I have what I thought was forceful letdown and now I'm worried about not having enough supply instead of oversupply like I thought.
Should I just keep up with this one pumping in the am to get stash and will output increase? I'm worried when I pump at work I'll never get enough to cover ds next day eating at daycare. With dd I would get plenty and then some.
Re: Just did my 1st post feeding pump to get stash, not much output
yep. A one week old's stomach capacity is 2 oz. so.... yeah that's good. Keep at it and it should increase over time. After pumping for a week or two, I would about 2 oz/ day to get a stash before I went back to work. I never really got more than that until I started pumping to replace feedings.
This! My LC told me not to expect to get much after a feeding - you are telling your body to make more. I also found that drinking water while pumping helped me to pump more. You're doing great, keep it up!
