Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Do you use your changing pad?

I am trying to decide if I should get one to put on my dresser. My DH has it in his head that we will just change the baby wherever we are in the house (on a blanket or something).

Before I go spending money on a pad and cover, I was wondering how often you mamas actually use the changing pad. TIA!

Re: Do you use your changing pad?

  • We have a whole changing table with pad and it's the only place we change DS.

I personally can't stand to bend over the sofa or bed.  In addition, I find it sooo handy to have everything at arms reach.  Whether he surprises us with a fountain (lol), or we need to clean his nose, or put moisturizer on his dry spots, everything is in one place.

  • For us we always use it.  My husband is messy and I have to keep him organized.  I would say dont get one at first and see how it goes and if you feel later you want one then go for it.  We also have dogs that LOVE our LO so it keeps noses out of the diapers! We dont use a changing pad cover though.  She loves to pee once the diaper is off.  We just put one of the hundreds of recieving blankets folded under her tush just in case she pees.  Its quicker to replace and wash if we have a accident. GL!
  • We never ever did with DS. I just kept diapering supplies in our main living areas (in a diaper caddy or basket), and our room, because it was so much more convenient.
  • All the time. I change her either there (in her nursery upstairs) or on the PNP changer downstairs. We have a big dog and I need a high surface because she would just LOVE to eat a dirty diaper.

This is exactly our setup.  She only gets changed on her changing table upstairs or in the PnP downstairs.  I would never go all the way upstairs to change her though, but our house isnt so big that one station per floor doesn't cut it.

  • I use mine all the time--I like having all of the changing stuff in one place.  Also, my LO loves her changing table.  It is where she smiles the most!
  • All the time! We have never changed him anywhere else. I had a c-section and DH has a bad back, so we can't bend over so well. We just have it on top of the dresser in LO's room. It was not expensive and I have a few covers because LO is notorious for peeing/pooping everywhere while we change him.
  • We do every diaper change on the changing pad.
  • We use ours all the time- its the only place we change her when we're home. All her diapering needs are right there along with her onesies if we need to change that, too. She immediately calms down when she's on her changing table- its like she knows relief is coming. :) Plus, we've had some poop explosions once the diaper was removed- I'm so glad I'm not having to scrub the mess out of the carpet or the couch!!

  • I thought I would change my baby everywhere in the house, but we actually always use the pad.  The crib is our bedroom and has a changing table attached.  I don't mind going to the other end of the house to use it :-)

  • I use it for every diaper change.  All of his diaper stuff is in his room, so we just do it there.  It is nice to have a dedicated space and I am glad we have it.

Plus, Cindy and Debbie are too curious.  I couldn't change him on the floor our couch.  They would go crazy.

  • We use it every time. But, we also live in an apartment. I can see how in a bigger house you may just do it wherever you are.

If you get the pad, make sure you get more than one cover, just in case LO makes a mess on one :)

  • We use it all the time. I used to change him downstairs when I was recovering from my c/s but now we always change him in his room on the changing table.

  • We use it with every diaper change.  I find it easier than bending over on the floor or something...and all of our supplies are in one spot all the time.  Since we CD it's harder to carry them from room to room.

  • Every change. Our house is 1000 sq ft; there is no reason not to walk the 15 steps and do it in his room.

  • We use the changing table in our house for the majority of diaper changes. Especially because it's where the wipes warmer, diapers, and diaper genie are.

  • We use the changing pad exclusively as well.  Our house is small and I don't want diapering supplies taking up space in the living room.

Plus, since our house is small, it's no big deal to walk to DD's room every time she needs a change.

This! Also we have two covers and some thick fabric cut into rectangles that matches her nursery that we put over the cover at the butt area. So I end up swapping out the fabric at least once a day and the cover less often.

    this!

  • The first few weeks when I was super exhausted I had a "mobile changing station" which was essentially a tote that went with me to whatever room I was in so I could change her.  Now we almost always use the changing table, even at night.

  • We used a chair in the living room for the first few weeks but now use the change table in her nursery. It's nice to be in there so it will be familiar to her when we transition to the crib, not have extra mess in the living room and have a garbage can handy. And, she's peed on the table enough, I am glad we aren't using the chair anymore!!

I use it for every single diaper change. It's easier on my back, all my stuff is in one place, I can actually see what I'm doing, it's much more convenient than having to lug around or find your supplies around the house when its time to change and the living room doesn't have to smell like poo - winning!

Yes, her changing table in her room is the only place in the house she ever gets changed. Its where all her diapers, wipes and creams are, and I'd rather take her there every time than have all those supplies all over the house. And be warned: newborns can have very frequent, very explosive poops. DD squirt all over the pad on a daily basis for a while, despite my efforts to keep a diaper under her at all times and wait til she seemed finished. She once got everything in her line of fire - lamp, nightstand, wipes box, rug, wall. I would never ever change her on my bed or a piece of furniture after that!

  • We always use ours. The only time we don't is middle of the night diaper changes which are done on our bed since he sleeps in our room.

  • We have ours in the bathroom and use it for every change.

Edited to add, that I'm happy we do because we just had a fountain of pee that hit the wall, cover and floor while DH was changing him.

This. I wasn't going to get one, but my mom talked me into it and I'm so grateful that she did!!
