Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Mosquito repellant for 3-4 month old

DD2 will be just shy of 4 months for the 4th of July. We are planning to watch the fireworks at the park so DD1 can see them for the 1st time. I am really starting to get worried on the best method to repel the mosquitos from both of them but mainly DD2. What is safe for the them at this age (DD1 will be just shy of 19 months)?

Re: Mosquito repellant for 3-4 month old

  • I have heard of people tying one of those repellant sticks to the person who carries lo. Cali baby makes a spray but I don't know what age it is for.

  • I haven't used any of these, but here is One Step Ahead's bug repellent page. Looks like the Bug Bam bracelet can be used for any age and is safe. Hope you find something that works for you!

  • My 4 month sheet my pedi gave us says you can use a repellent with less than 30% DEET.

  • My pedi recommended not using anything with DEET in it.  He said long sleeves and pants are the best way to go with such a young child.

  • In a pinch (one night) mosquito repellent is fine. Give them both a bath when u get home. You could do the clip on thing. Also pinning a dryer sheet to their clothes works too.

  • Thanks ladies for all your input!  Because I don't have time to order the bracelets I will be trying the off clip. I have also heard about the dryer sheet so we'll prob do both!  Thanks again!
