Infertility

What do you pay for acupuncture?

For anyone who does acupuncture, what do you pay? I've looked at two centers in town -- one charges $140 for the initial consultation & 1st treatment and $90 for subsequent treatments. The other charges $40 for the consultation and $65 for subsequent treatments.

There's a lack of reviews for them or any acupuncture facility in my area...just wondering what others' experiences are with this.

Re: What do you pay for acupuncture?

  • I can't remember what the initial consultation fee was, but I pay $90/treatment for a combination of traditional and electro-stim acupunture and I paid $300 for pre- and post-ET laser acupuncture.

  • $88/visit.  Initial consult wasn't any different cost than the follow ups.  I love it! GL!

  • Moose,

    You probably know already, but make sure that whomever you go to specializes in "fertility acupuncture."

    FYI, I've done some research on acupuncturists in ATL.  These were the ones I saw rec'd on the local boards:

    **Mark Schwartz https://atlanta-acupuncture.net/  is trained in the Chinese style.  {specializes in "fertility" acupuncture; His wife (I assume), Lauren Schwartz, also specializes in "fertility" acupuncture.}

    Kozue "Swasti" Oyama https://www.akdoc.com/swasti.html is trained in the Japanese method which uses smaller needles than the Chinese version. {But I don't know that she specializes in "fertility" acupuncture though.}

    Shams Wesley https://www.acupuncturedecatur.com/index.html  {specializes in "fertility" acupuncture}

    Andrea Lewinter https://www.alltherapist.com/andrea-lewinter.html {I couldn't find additional info on this one.}

    I am not sure on their prices.  Are you looking at any one of these?  MH and I are really interested in starting.

    Mark Schwartz is one of the ones I was looking at -- his are the $140/$90 prices. I actually spoke to Jenny there -- it looks like she, Mark, and another guy do all the acupuncture there. Their website is impressive.

    I also talked to Dr. Li Du https://www.acupuncture-expert.com/ -- she is actually $40 for consultation (20 minutes) & $75 for subsequent treatments (looks like her website prices are outdated a bit).

    Li Du is closer to where I live (Dunwoody area), but Schwartz & Co are close to where I work (Buckhead).

    Jenny (w/Mark's clinic) seemed very knowledgeable on infertility. She recommended pre- and post-treatments for IUI (post treatment to be within 1 hour of the IUI). Li Du also seemed to be familiar with treating infertility and said she had successfully helped 5 women become pregnant so far this year.

    I'm so torn on which direction to go. In the end, $75 vs. $90 isn't a HUGE difference...I just wish I had a clear sense of who might be better. I can't seem to find many reviews of any Atlanta acupuncture clinics.

  • I am super lucky b/c my insurance covers it. She submits it for pain management for my back (which I do have) and infertility as a secondary reason so they cover it and I pay $20 a session. After reading what you all pay, I feel blessed.

    This are a few of the threads I'd read with "reviews":

    I am having the same problem in deciding.     Tongue Tied

    I also just remembered that ACRM has acupuncture:  https://www.atlantainfertility.com/services-acupuncture-overview.html {hmmm, wonder if Mark Lewinter is related to Andrea Lewinter, or if they are the same person?}

    I think Mark and Jenny {oops, I meant Jenny earlier, not Lauren} do the "fertility" acupuncture and the other two have different specialties.

    I hope you don't mind me answering.

    I'd look for an acu with better stats, if you can find one.  My acu averages 1 pregnancy a week from his patients.  The week I got my BFP he had 6 pregnancies.  That said my acu works exclusively with IF patients so that could explain the increased successes over someone who doesn't work exclusively with IF patients.

    FWIW, my acu charges $140 for a consult and $75 per visit after that.

    I don't mind at all -- thank you for the info! I agree, I probably should have asked her what actual percentage those 5 women are of those she sees for infertility issues. Oops!

  • We should be paying $75/visit, but she's giving it to us for $50/visit (since there are two of us going, and we give her some farm-fresh eggs too).

  • I'm not sure about the initial consult, but around $100-something sounds right.  Both places I have gone charge $75 for subsequent sessions.  Although, they both also offer package deals that bring the cost down to $60 per session (one place gives you 5 sessions for $300 and the other gives 6 for $360).

  • I go to a TCM Dr. and fertility specialist. I paid $ 90 for my first session/consult and $ 70 each time I go now. My insurance covers up to 16 visits per year at 60% for this provider who is not in my network. So, I end up paying $ 28 dollars after reimbursement. I do also get herbs and these are not covered by my insurance at all and that ends up being like $ 50-100 per month. I have acu done about every 2 weeks. These are Seattle prices.
