How old were/are you for baby #1?

As of next month (my birthday) H and I will be 25. We have been married 3 years, own our home, I have been teaching for 4 years and we are very stable. I have caught some side-glances from my mom, sister and SIL when they found out we were TTC (they only found out because my mom used my bathroom and saw the BFN pregnancy test and wrapper in the trash).

My mom got married at 16 had her kids at 18, 22 (she was then widowed and remarried and had me at 30. My SIL got KU in HS by some jerk and then had my niece with my brother at 27, my sister just got KU and she's 33. So needless to say I am not the norm in my family.

I know the longer you wait the more mature you are, but because I was raised around much older children I have always been mature for my age, so is H.

So I just wanted to see how old you ladies were when you had baby #1 or how old you are now while you are TTC! TIA!

Not certain when we'll really start TTC again - my cycles haven't even returned yet (weaning) so I could easily be 38 for the next one.

Same here, 23, TTC #1 starting next cycle. Different ages mean different things for different people, only you can know when you're ready to have a baby. And truthfully, I don't think anyone can totally prepare themselves for being a parent. That's half the reason it's so exciting!

I'm 33 and if I get pregnant this cycle, I'll be 34 when the baby is born. I think age is less important than the "where you are in life" factor. If you're ready, you're ready and it sounds like you have checked the items off your list (married for 3 years, own your own home, career established) that you wanted to take care of before TTC. It's a decision only you and your DH can make for yourselves so if you both feel you're ready, the time is right.

I am 31 and DH is 28. We were waiting for him to finish law school.

@ 31 when I told my mother I was off the pill her response was "I hope you are using other forms of BC" - she apparently missed the purpose of the conversation and I have simply not shared anything else with her.

Don't sweat the reactions. If you and YH are ready, that is what matters. GL

I am 25 and have been married for 4 years. I was waiting for my 25th Bday to start TTC. 25 just seamed to me like the perfect age for me, not too young, not too old. Plus just because I got married young didn't mean I wanted children young. I wanted to enjoy MH and our marriage and for BOTH of us to be ready. A couple yrs ago everyone would say "I hope you guys aren't planning to have kids yet" and now it seems all of our parents are just waiting to be grandparents! haha

If YOU think you are ready for kids then that's all that should matter. Everyone is different.

I will be 28 in less than a month TTC #1, DH is 35, we were married last October. My Mom had them all over the map from 22 to 35 and my sister & brother did not start until after they were 30. It is really when you and your DH are ready and no body else.

We started TTGP when I was 21. I just turned 22 a couple weeks ago and DH is 23. I don't necessarily agree that age brings wisdom - theoretically, it should, but I know a lot of people in their 30s who are complete idiots, and a lot of people in their 20s who have their lives totally together. But anyhow, DH and I feel that we're ready despite our young age, and if we get KU this cycle or sometime soon, we'll be the same age by the time our phantom baby is born.

I always thought that I wouldn't have kids until I was 30. But, my husband always thought he would have kids BY 30. And, he's older....

So, now that we're both ready for kids, I'm 28 and he'll be 31 in September.

We're TTC#1...I'm 27 and DH is 32. We've been together for a long time and married for 2 1/2 yrs and I've been getting the "Are you pregnant yet?, Do you need the name of a fertility Dr?" since before we got married. I agree w/ PP's. You decide when your ready. Not the rest of the world.

DH and I had been together for 7 years (not married, but together). We were married in Feb of 2010 after I was already pregnant. Priorities.
