Trouble TTC

Can I vent for a minute??

I really try not to complain, but it just seems like nothing is going smoothly... we FINALLY get to start trying again after months of waiting after my m/c.  Today is CD1- why, hello there AF, welcome to the party- so I call RE's office.  Guess who is on vacation this week???

I love my RE.  But his new assistant SUUUUUUUCKS.  So she tells me he's away, to call the nurse, make arrangements to have my CD3 u/s b/w done by someone else at the clinic (which will be 100% OOP by the way bc my RE is covered, but the clinic is not- don't ask, Cornell is crazy).  She then proceeds to tell me that my RE is "booked" next week and she's not sure she can fit me in.  Um, are you KIDDING me? I waited almost 4 months for this, you can't squeeze me in for a 5 minute ultrasound?  I know there is no way my RE would allow this if he knew what was happening bc he is awesome and has ALWAYS made time for us. She's going to call me tomorrow and I am NOT going to take no for an answer.

In the meantime, I speak to the nurse.  She says that since I was already monitored last month, I can start taking Clomid this week (yay!) and then see the doctor next week when he's back.  She then informs me that the clinic is closed next weekend, so if I have to have an IUI those days, we're SOL.  Right now, the weekend would fall on CD13 and CD14.  My last IUIs were CD12 and CD13.  Yep, awesome.

And I won't even get into the shiitshow about my insurance co forcing me to use an online pharmacy to get my Ovidrel and that whole ridiculous process...

If you got through all that... thank you! lol

Re: Can I vent for a minute??

  • How frustrating. why can't RE's know that IF does not take holidays or vacations?!?!

We had to sit out this cycle b/c of this reason (vacations). It sucks but at least we can save that $$ towards the next cycle.

    GL!

I think some of these RE offices need to hire some understanding nurses that have been through IF before.  It should be a prerequisite for the position. It seems there far too many assistants and schedulers or nurses that are so out of touch about the whole importance of timing and NEEDing an appt.  Sorry to hear your having so much trouble with your clinic now.

  • You totally have a right to vent!   How do they get cycles done if they are not open on the weekend - is it just the holiday?   Even that is nuts - there are holidays almost every month.

    Good luck!

  • I hear you, although you have way more reason to be frustrated than I did.  When my RE's office called to reschedule my follow up 5 WEEKS LATER, I did not take no for an answer and got in this week.  I work in healthcare, sometimes you have to really fight for what you know you need, especially when it comes to IF. Just because it is OOP/optional treatments doesn't mean we are doing it for fun!

  • That totally bites.  I work in healthcare, too, and sometimes it's a matter of who you talk to.  If you're not getting satisfactory replies from the office staff, ask to talk to the practice manager.
  • I'm so sorry luft!  Some times I feel like "if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all."  I hope your luck starts to turn around - starting with getting in to see your RE.  Pulling for you!

  • Super frustrating!!! I am so sorry for all the bumps in the road. I hate dealing with all of the administrative/scheduling crap. Oftentimes, it makes me more anxious than the treatment itself! That is great news, though, that you are back in the game! Many good vibes for a great cycle:)

  • Sorry to post and run yesterday, thanks for the support!!

My clinic is usually open on the weekends and it's a pretty large well known clinic, so there are doctors there everyday and there's a nurse line that you can call at anytime (I've actually spoken to one of the on-call doctors at 11pm at night).  They are only closed a few weekends a year- around Christmas/New Years and then this weekend and next, so I can't really complain, it's just bad luck :(

The worst is that we could have started last cycle, but bc of our vacation plans, we decided we could wait a month and that after everything we'd be through, it would be good to get away and regroup.  Now I feel like we totally screwed ourselves.

LG- on my last Clomid cycle, they told me that Clomid actually tends to lengthen the cycle of a lot of women... that seems kind of counterintuitive to me, but idk.  Last time we started on CD5 and I ovulated basically at the same time as I always do, so we'll see what happens with CD3.  I'm hoping that even if it's a little early we can do the IUI Friday and then TI for the rest of the weekend.  UGH.

  • Damn, thebump ate my post!!

Sorry for the post and run yesterday... thanks for the support!

The clinic we go to is pretty large/well known and they have doctors there every day and on call after hours (I actually spoke to the doctor on call at 11pm one night). They are only closed a few weekends a year, we just happened to get "lucky" enough to hit one :(  I really hope we can squeeze it in on Friday and our timing will be ok... we'll see.

LG- the last time we did Clomid I was told that it lengthens some cycles.  Seems counterintuitive to me, but idk... We did CD5 last time and I ovulated around the same time as always.  This time will be CD3, so maybe it will change things, I have no idea!  I'm just going to take one day at a time...
